https://wtop.com/virginia/2023/01/gun-owners-in-virginia-urged-to-lock-it-up/

Under the legislation, adults would need to store their guns “in a locked container, compartment or cabinet,” if anyone under 18-years-old is in the home.

Ammunition would need to be “in a separate locked container, compartment or cabinet,” and the key or combination to the containers would need to be “inaccessible to any minor.”

Those who violate the rule could be charged with a misdemeanor for each gun that is not in a locked containe

The democrats have been outwardly defiant of Bruen, why would they give a fuck about Heller?

And yes, it is.

Welcome to my world and not that I totally obey it, but my wife ran a day care in our house for the last 20 years.   She is finally getting away from it thank God.   Washington state rules on not just a locked-up gun, but tons of other stupid shit only liberal hens in a think tank can come up with.

Even when I lived in New Mexico my shit was always locked up. Even my carry piece was in a nightstand safe ready if needed.

the gov has no right to regulate how you store guns in your own house.

While I personally agree if you have small children around, or kids from friends/neighbors they should be locked up, I don't believe the gov should have any say in it.

But welcome to Oregon, where we hav3 storage laws.  Oh, and if a gun is stolen and you don't report it, guess who the felon is?

Assault weapons ban advances in the Virginia state Senate; will face an uphill battle in the House
Sen. Creigh Deeds sponsored legislation that would ban assault weapons manufactured after June 2023 and raise the age to buy from 18 to 21.
a Democratic-controlled Senate committee on Monday passed a slate of gun bills aimed at keeping dangerous firearms out of the hands of people who could potentially inflict harm on others.

By a 9-6 party line vote, the Senate Judiciary Committee backed legislation that would ban the new sale and possession of assault weapons manufactured after July 1, 2023. Sponsored by Sen. Creigh Deeds, D-Charlottesville, Senate Bill 1382 would also raise the age to buy an assault weapon manufactured before the bill’s effective date from 18 to 21.

By the same party-line vote, the panel also voted in favor of legislation that would prohibit the carrying of certain semi-automatic center-fire rifles, pistols and shotguns in most public places. Under current law, the current prohibition applies to a narrower range of firearms, only in certain localities, and only when such firearms are loaded.

The committee further backed a proposal making a Class 1 misdemeanor – punishable as a Class 4 felony for a second or subsequent offense – for anyone to knowingly sell, offer to sell, transfer, or purchase an unfinished frame or receiver, referring to a weapon that has not yet reached a stage of manufacture that meets the definition of “firearm frame” or “receiver” according to the Gun Control Act (GCA). Exceptions apply for serial-stamped firearms sold by importers, dealers or manufacturers.

Here's an idea big brain.  Lock up your shit when your kids friends are over.

I raised my kids right and they have had guns around them from day 1.

I took the mysticism out of the equation and have never had an issue.  They were tought right.

People didn't keep their guns in safes 100 years ago because children were raised right.  Hiding something from children is a 100% way for their curious little minds to get into trouble.

Just to put your mind at ease, I checked on my daughters. Both of them have all their guns locked up, except the ones on display in their rooms.

All is well.

Virginia bill could place three-day waiting period on gun purchases

House Bill 2273 is working its way through the General Assembly.

The bill, proposed by Del. Cliff Hayes Jr., would place a three-day waiting period on gun purchases. The waiting period starts when a buyer completes a consent form to allow a criminal history record check.

There are a few exceptions. For example, the waiting period wouldn’t apply to law enforcement, gun dealers, or the purchase of antique firearms.

If you put them where minors can't get them then you can't get to them then neither can you if you need it in a hurry.

You don't kid proof your guns. You gun proof your kids by teaching them right from wrong and how to safely use them.

Exactly as I grew up.

I was a latchkey kid. I could protect myself from ~10+.
There is no way I would leave my daughter alone in the house without a way to protect herself.

The Democratic led Senate Judiciary panel voted down a bill from Republican Sen. Mark Obenshain that would have limited a 2020 law allowing localities some ability to create gun-free zones. Obenshain argued the law is in direct conflict with a U.S. Supreme Court ruling last year.

So far 14 democrat sponsors and no republicans.    The Republicans control the house by 4 votes.  Unless you have 4 go with the dems should this not fail to advance?
