Thanks. I didn't ask the question but I've wondered why an older colt I own has that same set-up.

Most of what I'm reading says "tough, Parkerized matte coating".

We brought back a shit ton of knives from the PI to Okinawa. Everyone wanted a balisong, or a boot knife, or, whatever, and you had your choice of about a thousand different offerings, 'cause the Phillipinos love them some knives. They all had one thing in common, they rusted badly in less than two months. Okinawa is semi-tropical (seriously), and that may have been a contributing factor.

Not saying these pistols will, at all, but if I were buying I'd be rubbing it down with Mobil 1 (or your choice of anti-corrosion agent) every so often just until that coating proves out.

Wait...dammit, I just ordered this one instead of the Tisa thinking it was a solid foundation with less marking.  Hell...maybe I need to cancel.  Don't need more than 1 entry level 1911.

It looks like the Turks and the Filipinos are flooding the market with inexpensive 1911s.  I'm not the right guy to rate either one, but I really like the Armscor version.

I bought a Springfield Garrison in 9mm last week. It has become my favorite shooter. A little on the heavy side but that accounts for the light recoil. I'll probably need a battle belt if I want to carry it.

I've been known to carry my Sig 1911 in a Safariland Kydex paddle holster, when I'm feeling sporty.  The paddle really helps carry the weight.

I’ve always wanted an old school 1911 to play around with. I grew up to my grandfathers WW2 stories in which the 1911 was often mentioned.

Hell even if it doesn’t work worth a damn, it’ll be a cool paperweight.

I have both the Tisas Duty (5") and Carry (4.25").  I just got the Armscor/Taylor 10mm 5".
I also have a POS mid080s AutoOrdnance. The less said about that one the better.

Finish on the Tisas is better. The Taylor rattles a little more when shaken.
The Taylor has a beefier, better looking thumb safety.
Grip safety on the Tisas is better; more solid and better memory bump.

Taylor has a fiber optic sight. I haven't been able to confirm the sight dovetails on the Tisas guns, so I don't know if I can put a FO sight on.
Taylor has a decent adjustable sight, Tisas has a nice metal rear sight that is drift adjustable.

I dislike the Taylor's bushingless take-down; the Tisas is pure 1911.

Interesting.  Mine does not have a fiber optic sight, which I'm actually okay with.  Nor are the sights adjustable, except for being drift adjustable - they're just larger and give a better sight picture than actual G.I. sights.  They're well-regulated, pretty much dead on.

Mine also DOES have a bushing, it's just that the plug is open so the FLGR will pass through it.  Takedown is typical of any other 1911.  My only gripe about it is that the thumb safety is a wee bit mushy.  That would bother me a bit if I was planning on making this my full-time CCW, being that it's an ambidextrous safety, and might be prone to being swept off in the normal course of the days events.

Anyone tried converting one?

I started with a .38 Super by Rock Island, but you could use a 9x19 also.

If these are like the standard RIA's, then the slide does not accept standard Novak sights.  It's not a huge deal, but get the sights you want when you get the gun. A good gunsmith can modify Novak pattern sights to fit, but your options are limited on sights that will install without custom fitting.

Dawson Precision has sights specifically for the RIA guns.

Very nice! IIRC it would have cost me just under $400 in hand (everything including transfer). I'm trying to, somewhat seriously, be frugal so I passed and ended up buying 100 rounds of .44 mag.

Nice looking wood grips and a "cerakote" type finish that seems to look a lot like the old-school parkerized finish.

My understanding is that TISAS is a Turkish company, and the gun is imported by SDS imports. But all the pics I'm seeking show simply "Knoxville TN," and don't mention anything about Turkey. Other markings are minimalist and not stupid.
I like the "ring" hammer too.

I already know I won't be able to see the sights worth shit.
And I'll probably print shots low left like I do with most other pistols.
At least that's where the shots go when I USE the sights.
This configuration seems like a "use-of-sights-optional" kind of thing.
I'll be mostly just pointing.

Just what I need. ANOTHER 9mm. And a low-capacity one at that.

Then I remembered how ridiculously heavy and bulky the full size 1911's were.

I've got a supply of 9mm ammo. Really can't afford to buy a whole bunch of 45 ACP ammo for an impulse buy.

My Armscor 1911 is the full size (5") version.  in the 230 rounds I fired, I didn't have any brass hitting me anywhere.  It all ejected to the right, as it was supposed to do.  Either way, congratulations.  You made a good choice.

Are any of these sub $500 guns parkerized or are they all Cerakote? I'm not a fan of Cerakote.

I picked mine up today. Never owned a 1911 so I don’t know what ‘good’ is, but it seems about what I expected. Little rough around the edges (literally) but I’ve always wanted an old school-looking 1911.

I realized after I got home that they sent me the ‘flat mainspring housing’ model instead of the one with the rounded mainspring area. I prefer the look (and I’m sure it would have felt better too) of the arched, but whatever. It’s not worth pursuing.

Should be a fun pistol, for $299 at least.
