We eat earlier in the day also, that way when everyone starts getting hungry again later in the evening they can start attacking the leftovers and get two meals in one day with only one prep.

Noon might be early, but if OP and his family are preparing food for the family, you should be respectful and show on time for the meal. To be late is disrespectful.
That being said, 10 minutes late isn't much, but 30 minutes+ and yeah, I'm eating without you, and you're probably gonna get an earful on the side. Can't make noon, tell us. |

Might be running late do to traffic.
My L48 grandma always had Thanksgiving ready about 3-5pm. Sometimes do to weather or ranch problems a few always showed up late. Same thing up here in AK we always start around 3-5pm. We always wait about a half hour before eating for people to show. |

In-laws do the same thing. Years ago, the Other Resident wanted to host Easter dinner but was frustrated at the thought of her sisters dragging their asses, especially when they were usually counted on to bring something. My assessment, proven correct over time, was that their behavior was a combination of stupidity, stubbornness and passive aggressive manipulation. I advised the OR to just do everything herself and inform the in-laws as to what time dinner would be served. That way no one could hold up the show. It worked fine! I don't remember if they showed up on time, but it didn't matter.

I had to tell my gay BIL to STFU up a couple years ago during his monologue about his superior atheism and how ignorant religious people are. I'm not religious at all, but I wasn't going to sit there and have my dad, a devout Christian and widower, listen to that BS.
Same BIL is obsessed with the Democrat's J6 dog and pony show. I'm sure we'll have to hear about that or again how Trump is literally Hitler. FIL is a Democrat who will also say Trump is Hitler and then make racist jokes or use the n-word at least twice at every family get together(unless my wife's friend who has a black husband is there). |

My parents used to come over for holidays and want a firm time set for eating
They would want to eat and leave, with a plate of leftovers even though they brought nothing.Thats not how holiday meals work, you come visit and when everything is done its done. Now its just me, the wife and our 2 adult kids. The only ones I invited this year were any local Arfcomers but no one was neafrby. |

First, I'm glad I love and actually LIKE my in-laws. Second, I don't make demands of my guests. I inquired first on what works best for all and make a command decision from there. Having done Thanksgiving for decades for a large family and friends, it's key to successful gathering to be a gracious host. Hell, for years I did THREE Thanksgivings every year. One strictly family. One family and close friend. One strictly orphan friends who had no one to do Thanksgiving with.
 This year be one of the first where we aren't doing Thanksgiving and merely attending one with friends. |

Early in the day or later I could give two shits. If somebody is cooking for me I not only get a time but check if it is a arrive by time or sit at the table time.
My cousins kid and her husband are really excellent cooks and wonderful hosts ,I was working myself up to a great time even though a couple of the other invited relatives are a bit of a pain in the ass. The husband blew op with full blown Covid so the feast is canceled. Oh well. I tore apart the garage door to do some repair this morning and right now am packing up to head down the road to shoot for a couple of hours . Got to gear up for a run to a couple of gun stores Fri morning as they are running some decent black Friday sales |
