Our feature 1969 Chevy Corvette L88 is an unrestored convertible finished in its factory original Can Am White over a black vinyl interior. It has been driven just 6,457 miles from new, and was once owned by the late Chip Miller, co-founder of Corvettes at Carlisle. The Chevy Corvette L88 was intended to be a competition car rather than daily transportation. Produced in limited numbers for the 1967, 1968, and 1969 model years, the L88’s 427 cubic-inch Big Block came with four-bolt mains, forged internals, 12.5:1 compression, a radical solid lifter cam, Holley 850-cfm carb, transistorized ignition, and an aluminum intake. The result was a Corvette Chevy underrated at 430 horsepower, but with a bit of tuning and header, could easily see 550 to 600 ponies. The Corvette L88 option required a number of corresponding options. Heavy-duty power brakes, F41 Special Front and Rear suspension, and a Positraction rear differential were all mandatory. The L88 could only be had with the Muncie M22 “Rock Crusher” four-speed manual in 1967, but was available with the Turbo-Hydramatic three-speed automatic in 1968 and 1969. Yeah, you couldn't get an L88 with A/C. Hell, they didn't like to run with mufflers, or pump gas. ??

Ahhh, memories. Had a 69 427 Roadster, 4 speed. Separately, I dropped a Chevy Big Block bored .60 over with 12:1 compression and all the other associated goodies in a 69 442 convertible 4 speed and installed a straight gate shifter. That required octane booster with 96 gas or avgas. Not surprisingly, never could pass emissions inspections where I lived. Thanks for posting.

A family I knew in Tampa had over 200 (or 400, I can’t remember) Classic Olds. Bob offered me an original, unmolested ‘70 W-30 for $3500. I didn’t have the money. I think about it often. What would my old Mustang sell for? I would guess $Tree-fity. My Uncle had one of those. It was pretty cool as a kid to ride in it. |

Let's not forget the Red/Red 67 at barrett for north of 3.5 million a few years ago. Anyway, I'd put this one at 650+ It's original and someone wants it. 475 would be nice too. Does it have a reserve? |

For the money I would rather have both a SuperPeformance GT40 and SuperPerformance Daytona Coupe.
Throw something like a 5.2 aluminator in the GT40 and a SBF 427 in the Daytona. |

View Quote Not hard, we used to take 454's, change the crank out for either the 375 hp 396 crank or the 427 crank, 427 pistons and your favorite heads and cam..early years I used a copy of the factory cam, but made with hydraulic lifters for street use, later engines with a hydraulic roller cam...heads, any of the good dart/brodex street square ports would out perform the factory heads by a bunch.. the rest is the vette pan, intake and carb...later ones I used holleys projection on...The 67-68 427 heads were closed chamber, the 69's were open chambered, you want open chambered, closed chamber heads way to easy to get into detonation.......If you wanted true numbers matching, it could be done ..but the heads were a real bear to find, and they were expensive.. Everything else wasn't to hard to find...And I didn't care for the heads because the aftermarket heads were better in every metric... |

My dad has a 67 Corvette Stingray that he's been thinking about selling so he can buy a more modern Corvette. He never drives his and he thinks he would drive it more if it were a bit more comfortable.

MANNNN! I will say I'm good. I said 650+ which the plus is good for 100k at that number.
No sale at 700. Two theories here. 1 he had more than that in it. Although I can't believe I've never heard of this car, nor of it ever being for sale. 2 greed. Someone told him it's a million dollar car and he wouldn't take less. I think he should have lifted reserve at 700k. I've seen cars jump a bunch after that because they know it's a possibility they could own it. |
