I would love to see the look on AOC's face when he said this.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-abolishing-fillibuster-throw-entire-congress-chaos

President Biden shot down calls to abolish the filibuster to clear the way for passage of the sweeping Democrat-backed elections overhaul, arguing that any effort to end use of the tactic despite a GOP outcry would jeopardize his entire legislative agenda.

"There’s no reason to protect it, other than you’re going to throw the entire Congress into chaos and nothing will get done," he said. "Nothing at all will get done. There’s a lot at stake. The most important one is the right to vote, that’s the single most important one."

Biden offered his stance during a CNN presidential town hall after an attendee and moderator Don Lemon pressed him to explain why he hasn’t called for the filibuster to be abolished.

Demands among progressives to abolish the filibuster have escalated since June, when Senate Republicans blocked consideration of the "For The People Act" after Democrats failed to secure the 60 votes required to overcome the filibuster. Biden is a staunch advocate of the bill, arguing it is a necessary check on election integrity bills in GOP-led states that the president has likened to "Jim Crow in the 21st Century."

While he is unwilling to seek an end to the filibuster, Biden said "abuse" of the tactic is "pretty overwhelming" in the Senate. The president reiterated his stance that lawmakers should be required to "hold the floor," or deliver continued remarks in the Senate chamber, in order to maintain a filibuster.

Biden referenced former Sen. Strom Thurmond of South Carolina, who once conducted a 24-hour filibuster in a failed bid to halt passage of civil rights legislation in 1957.

"There were significantly fewer filibusters in those days, in the middle of the Civil Rights movement," Biden said.

His handlers showed...things...to him. Uncomfortable and embarrassing - potentially illegal things.

That's my guess.

of course not. they wilkl play aroudn and try to do a few things, but in general, congress knows they cannot be in the position where the voters see that they could have done whatever they promised and didn't.

This. They need a Boogeyman. If no more filibuster, no more republicans to blame

Oh yeah ...we were gonna wipe student debt and double the minimum wage, but ...those pesky Republicans stopped us

The worst part is, most every partisan voter will believe it.

Yup. Just like the Republicans were going to repeal Obamacare.  90% or more of this shit is political theater meant to distract and divide us.

I do think they would ban standard capacity magazines and make other changes that would bother us but most Americans would not understand though.  Basically we are caught between a rock and a hard place.

Kind of like Gerrymandering. Dems have been all about it for the last 40 years in NC but the cycle they are not in power to set the boundaries the arrangement is racist and must be "fair".

They must have found a way around it, blackmail, extortion etc.

Didn't they just threaten another lockdown?

They plan to jam HR1, Amnesty and a whole wish list of liberal priorities through using budget reconciliation. And Biden is going to force a "talking filibuster" which can be stopped by a majority vote.

1: their voter-fraud act wouldn't pass constitutional muster

2: midterms don't look good for the communists, and they are afraid
that 2025 will be a repeat of the turtle passing judge appts, but with
actual legislation being signed by Desantis

He realized the push to abolish it has failed, and is trying to sound like he never wanted it abolished anyway.

One of the very few times I have to agree with Biden. He was a Senator. I am sure he knows (well maybe in a lucid moment) that power is fleeting and that if the Democrats remove the filibuster, it will bite them in the a$$ when Republicans take control. Harry Reid regretted, later on, eliminating the filibuster on judicial appointments because the Republicans used it effectively to fill the courts with Trump's appointments. And it gave the Republicans cover to completely eliminated it for SCOTUS appointments.

He is actually right. A firm 60 vote majority requirement keeps congress in check and prevents tyranny by majority.  Our government better serves with intact checks and balances.

Funny thing is a lot of people here were demanding the Republicans repeal the filibuster back in 2017-2018 in order to get the HPA and National CCW Reciprocity passed. Glad they were ignored then too because it would be a $#!tshow now if the Republicans had repealed it: DC Statehood, HR 8, SCOTUS packing, "For The People" Act and a whole slew of other insane legislation that made it out of the House (probably because they knew it would get hung up).
