Yes they did exist.  They were originally developed for  Anti-Ballistic Missile Warheads, the High Neutron flux does numbers to electronics!  IIRC, the Army tactical nuclear artillery rounds  had Neutron warheads as did tactical missles such as the Lance!

i'm against blanket killing, even of certain areas of the middle east.
I take it back.   If we did neutron bomb most of the syrians, pali's, saudi's, iraqi's  i suppose i wouldn't be to upset.

IIRC, France did extensive development work on Neutron bombs - and deployed them.

Here in the States, they never quite fit our Mutual Assured Destruction doctrine: They weren't destructive enough, and thus made nuclear war less 'unthinkable'.

There is a widly viewed misconception about neutron bombs that they do not cause physical destruction to building and equipment.  This is not true. They are still nuclear weapons and will do just as much damage as any other nuclear weapons of equal size.  The only difference is the amount of radiation released upon detonation. The neutron (or enhanced radiation) bomb releases a great deal more gamma and neutron radiation and so will kill or disable personnel at a greater distance.

I would not suggest killing everyone there. After all there are some of my Chaldean blood brothers over there putting up with these animals.

The US has enhanced radiation weapons ("neutron bombs") in the inventory.  They are in tactical weapons vs strategic weapons.
