Looking at taking an “urban scout” sniper course later on in the year. Not a lot of info on the course yet but preliminary info: rifle and glass must cost or be valued at $800.
What do you pick and why? I know prices are higher now, but I think “normal pre-pandemic price” would suffice. |

I got a 308 Howa bolt (barreled action) for less than 400, a couple years ago....

Ruger American and Primary Arms ACSS might juuuust make that. I guess you've got to use zip ties for scope mounts though.

Precision and poverty are a match made in heaven. Nothing for that is going to be worth a shit and is going to make for a miserable class. |

Am I retarded or am I correct in reading this as an actual requirement?

Weatherby Vanguard Select and the best glass you can find for $250.
|
|

Savage 10 or Ruger american with a PA optic.
And this won't be sniper, that's just a sales term. It'll be DM at best, and hopefully making timed hits at +500yds |

Scout Sniper course, huh?
Anyway, I guess I would find a used Remington 700 tactical and a SWFA fixed 10x mil/mil. The internal magazine will suck, though. But seriously, I'd borrow a friend's rifle if I were you. |

I’ve spent more than 2x just on the glass. The poors are everywhere. The “class” sounds like it’s run by a bunch of fudds

Lol at suggesting a fixed 10x scope for a “scout sniper” class in 2021.
This forum disappoints me. |

Savage 10P-SR seems like a great value for what you get. I'm looking at getting one or spending a little more on a 10BA Stealth.

Did you hit any of the Wal-Mart clearance deals posted the past several years? Lots of ok scopes and rifles at 75% off. Just show the Wal-Mart receipts to verify the $800. Of course for a “Sniper Course” nothing from Wal-Mart or costing under $800.00 should be used. Ask for a refund is my advice.

Current value or at purchase.
I have a Rem. 700 Varmint Synthetic in 308 with a Leupold 3.5-10x40 AO with Elevation turret that i paid about $600 for 25years ago. |

Meh, I would not have a problem with that .
Probably don't want to waste time or have frustration with the guy that shows up with his cheap ass mil surplus rifle and his " good as a Ziess/Luepold /Nightforce " BSA scope. |

Do you guys suck at shooting when it’s not tier 1 equipment?

What does a scout sniper course consist of?
If you're going to be doing a lot of shooting, youre going to need something with a heavy barrel. |

I have a Ruger gsr with a us optic 1.5-6 and I have more than double your budget.

Try to find an older Remington VSF 700 in .308 Win with a decent barrel and a 150 dollar (used, ebay/GB) Bushnell Elite 3200 10X40
I have a VSF 700 in this caliber, it wears a Leupold Mark 4 4.5X14 X 50 but I think the rifle is doing the heavy lifting. |

Europtic has Vortex Viper PST Gen 2 3-15x44 EBR-2D FFP scopes on closeout, both MOA and MIL, for $599-620. That's the lowest quality glass for the price I'd go for a PRS rifle, and its moderate to good glass, and a huge bang for the buck.
I'd say up your budget to $1500 and go that route. Save a few months. |

My $800 rifle is a Savage 10fp with bell&carlson medalist, harris 9-13, Bushnell 10x40 elite mil/mil on egw 20moa w/ Warne rings. I wouldn't call it sub moa with me at the controls but it gets there sometimes.

Why on Earth would that be a requirement for the class? How much is he charging? |
