CNN.COM has an online article "Rival rallies argue gun laws" and on this page is a poll asking
"Should the federal ban on assault weapons be... Lifted/Extened?"

So far, the voting is against "lifting" the ban.
Lifted:          41,015
Extended:   146,480

Here's a sample of the usual ignorant ranting:

In a reference to a 2001 shooting in California, we read that
"... the assailant used a 9mm semiautomatic handgun with an illegal 30-round clip."

Then there's the old favorite,
"I don't believe assault weapons belong on our streets. If people want to play with such tools, they should join the military."

Apparently, assault weapons are a problem in Iraq, and of course they are bringing terror to our own streets, according to Rep. Chris van Hollen (D-Maryland). This nitwit lays a few pearls on the crowd:

"We are working very hard in Iraq to get AK-47s off the street, to get Uzis off the streets. The president says we're fighting the war on terror by doing that," said . "What about the terror right here on our streets at home."

Working very hard? To get AK-47s "off the streets" in IRAQ? WTF?

Van Hollen goes on to decry "a provision in the law that critics contend allows owners of legal firearms to replace the housing for the firing mechanism and turn them into illegal assault weapons." He tied the loophole to October 2002 sniper attacks that killed 10 people in van Hollen's Maryland district, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

"We need to close that loophole, because real bullets that killed real people went through those loopholes," van Hollen said.

Of course, I'm thinking, what the hell is he talking about? Replace what housing? But I guess this drivel sounds good to the CNN reporter, who either doesn't know anything about guns, or just doesn't care.

The president will be pleased to know that he has the backing of the vast majority of people on his stance on common sense and reasonable restrictions on firearms that are suitable for criminal misuse.

I think this one works by logging your IP so you can only vote once from a given IP.

My machine is set up so that it asks me before setting any cookies, and I have NO CNN cookies stored, and it's not asking me about any.
