My XPA3 lost zero in Phoenix summers >110F.  Not even on paper.  Took the return/refund option.

Why did they offer a refund?  I mean, it's a premier combat sight that everyone respects.  Why would they offer a refund to everyone?

I'm not sure I understand your question.  I believe there was a class action settlement.  I got my refund back in 2016.

Ahh.  As crazy as Phoenix summers are I would have given them a few inches of drift @100 yards and called it good but drifting off paper at 50 yards and not being able to find zero again as the gun continued to heat up from the sun and firing was not acceptable.

I thought I was losing it when I’d take my rifle out each winter when it got below zero and I’d have rezero it.  Then again in the summer.  I slapped my head when I read the article about the problem. I have so many different kinds of ammunition and reloads that I thought maybe it was just different POI

The dim or partial reticle was the delamination failure. I returned mine.

No issues but it ate a lot of batteries ended up a friends who’s still rocking it.

Yep. Held zero fine (namely because I did not expose it to freezing and then warming one would experience going outdoors and then indoors in Afghanistan in the winter time... which is where SOCOM was experiencing very very well documented 30-50 MOA shifts in point of impact). My seals went bad and I got moisture infiltration. What’s moisture infiltration look like demoMouse? Your reticle doesn’t show up or shows up very faintly in daylight!

Bought a vortex some ammo, and some beer with the check

Exps 3-0 battery drain. Would kill the battery every month when sitting in safe.

Different Exps 3-0 definite dead spots where the reticle would disappear completely.

Sent them in during eotech refund.

It's a shame, really liked the optic. If in the future they have an improved model, I will check it out.

Had an old-logo XPS2-0 lose the reticle in teh bottom half of the glass.

Had it fixed (free) and sold it in the EE.
Replaced it with a used old-logo XPS3-2 a couple years ago.  If that goes tits up, I'll have EOtech service that, too. I love it.

Nope. I’ve never had one fail. The only issue was on a 2003 era 552 that needed some grommets on the battery springs to help flickering on a SCAH-H. Outside of that they have been great. I do wish their battery life could be improved. Something like a shake awake set up would be great for an HD rifle.

Sent them back when they were giving money back for them.

My SU-231 (553) did, twice. Delaminated and battery cups broke first time. Repaired under warranty and was good for a few years. Second time it delaminated right before the buyback so I got lucky. Used the money and got 2 MRO’s.
I have several 512’s and they’ve been solid.

3 xps3’s here.

One on my main mk18 has been beat to shit.

Fallen off trucks, into a lake once, banged against roll bars a ton and has survived just fine.

I have a 512 that is at least 10 years old and works fine.  I probably would have jumped on the recall but I bought
a new battery base for it that had IR and it wasn't cheap so I was kind of stuck with it or lose the use of my IR.

With the documented issues they had and the fact that they offered to buy them all back, wouldn't you think they've figured it all out by now and current models are good-to-go?

They can't still be manufacturing the same models with the same problems, can they?

Had a 512 that failed, started showing two reticles..  sent it in and they fixed it .  Was about 7 years ago.  Sold it as soon as I got it back as I had already replaced it

Still using it after 15+ years.

For HD use drift isn't a big deal if it does drift and there are very few other optics like it that are as fast or faster to pick up. As others have said, I do wish you could preset the brightness and have it hold that position even after turned off.

I’ve got mixed feelings. I don’t trust them the same as my aimpoints but damn if they don’t work better for me. I love the shit out of using my Eotech. No issues with mine and about to pick up a 512 for my sons carbine.

512, mfr date nov 2005.

It would probably still be fine if not for the shit ass batteries blowing up inside it.  If I can get my hands on the rebuild parts, It may yet live again.

According to the lawsuit,  EVERY Eotech they had made until that point suffered from loss of purge.  EVERY SINGLE ONE. And Eotech was aware if it and kept marketing and selling them knowing the design had severe flaws engineered in that they were unable to correct in 10+years of production.

I returned mine, and wouldn't consider purchasing another one.

511 had battery drain issues. It’s common in the model. I’ve had several XPS/EXPS and all have been great.

The only failures in this thread are those who didn't return an obviously defective design, which was acknowledged by the manufacturer.

I loved the reticle and FOV on my 552, but when presented with the situation and pretty much MSRP refunded, the choice was obvious.

I had decent luck with them. I've had 5 or 6 and no hard failures except the lens delaminating on the older ones.

I never had an issue with one. Used an old AA one in the Army. Then another AA one (a 511 I think? This was almost 20 years ago) that was my own and an XPS.

But I still did the refund deal just because it was a good deal and to play it safe. I’ll probably get another one some day.

I had one.  It was a piece of crap and I returned it for a refund.

I used the sight three times before it stopped working.  The batteries drained in less than 24 hours, so I started removing the batteries after each usage.  The sight would not power on after replacing the batteries in preparation for using the sight for the 4th time.

The fact that Eotech admitted that they knew they sold defective sights to the military solidified my decision to never buy or use any of their products again.

I am glad L3 sold off Eotech, because L3’s network division has been GTG for two decades.

I have one of the 511 N cell models I bought new in 2006 i think.

still works fine and holds zero. batteries do drain if I leave them in but not terrible. It will drain a set over the course of a few months.

I have used them since 2005. I’ve had one 2013 EXPS 3-0 delaminate and it was returned and replaced.  I have a new production EXPS 3-0 now.

We still have some 2005 512s that run fine and I know of a 2008 SU-232/553 that is also running fine.

We also have some M2/M68 CCOs that are 10-33 program optics that are 15-20 years old. They are staring to fail on us with fading reticles and loss of zero. I’ve also managed to kill an M4S battery compartment.

All of our entry 11.5’s have EXPS that were purchased in 2017 and no problems have been reported.

EOTech has had its issues but the holographic sights are still preferred by most who use them here.  They also work better for some with an astigmatism than a RDS.
