Couple of reasons.
In conjunction with other policies that take money out of the working person’s pocket, it puts more heat on people, pushing them past poverty lines. Meaning more assistance. Meaning more people on govt assistance. That justifies them cyclically raising taxes to fund more of their programs - that really just put more money in their pockets and gives them more control. Next, look closely - a lot of them, despite their rhetoric, are making a lot of money from investments in oil companies. So more cash flow to oil companies means higher returns and dividends to them. |

They are heavily invested in the alternative energy companies the way the RINOs were in big oil. Fastest way to get people to use green energy is to cause the price of oil to skyrocket...which is what they are actively doing.

Vehicle ownership and the mobility it provides is an impediment to urban serfdom. When you own a vehicle, you don't need to live physically close to where you work, shop or eat, and you can pack your belongings in your car and leave if you find conditions in your present location to be objectionable. People who don't own vehicles are incredibly dependent on the government class.

The real reason is more likely that they are in bed with Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern companies who will get to drive up oil prices, who of course will use some of their profits to ramp of their terrorism financing, so expect a rise in terrorist attacks as gas prices rise. |

They have to create conditions for them to grift off of government spending on green energy. Green energy can't compete against fossil fuels under normal market conditions. It requires government to create artificially high prices of fossil fuel energy and subsidies for renewable energy.
That's all this is about, making money for political insiders off of the taxpayer. All this global warming stuff is smokescreen and fake justification. |

Tax revenue for one. Everything goes up in price when gas prices go up.
Back in 2006 when dems took over congress, pelosi refused to do anything about gas prices reach $5 or over, screeching about vacation, killed power to the media,.. cost of living started to double immediately after. Tax brackets remain the same as they were for who knows how long making it so that just to make enough to survive, you must first make enough to pay the king his/hers annual duty for that meager existence. Creating more dependents loyal to gov for survival, who cant. |

Rural areas are conservative. Many drive trucks, work, and commute. High gas prices punish rural conservatives more. In the end, they want centralized control of zoning, to make gas so expensive that rural folk are forced back into cities, where they are controlled easier and their votes diluted.
