Looking for a daily driver that will keep the miles off my truck and get better gas mileage. And to hedge of any potential price increases. Basically any bad economic effect that FJB could have.
Have basically ruled out any of the sedans.
Don't want the smallest SUV, but not too big either
Not looking for sporty or performance
Got to have power seat and tailgate.

Choices:
Toyota Rav4
Honda CRV
Ford Escape
Kia?  Don't know which model fits
Others??

Not considering any GM or Nissan product. Or really anything outside the $30k price range.

Have looked at the first 3, and they fit
Don't know if there are any real plus/minus to any particular one, but I do like the Ford best so far.
I have had a Rav4 and it seems solid.
Doesn't the Honda have something weird with the engine or transmission?
Any known problems with the Escape? Ecoboost model

Do what GD does best, offer opinions and hate everything!

RAV4 is the best... but If its a something to get good mileage and keep miles of your truck you might just want to get a used Escape (previous generation was pretty reliable)

Toyota 4 Runner
Good used Jeep if that is your thing

I'd avoid the SUVs that are unibody design and look for body on frame. Thats may be a big ask these days in small SUV market though.

I guess for a true SUV, you are correct, but I am looking for economy in both purchase price and mileage. This is not a pleasure vehicle.

A new 4Runner nor Jeep fit that bill.

Plus, I have had a Jeep and will not have another

I am not up on German models, but I assume that is the BMW.

Hard pass on German maintenance.

No BMW, Mercedes, or even VW.

Besides, I doubt their price range falls inside my upper end

I am a ford fan, but DO NOT buy a escape.  They are constantly in for trans, rear diff and turbo related oil leaks.

Rav-4
CRV
(Know you said No Nissan but...) 2016+ Rogue (They are solid)

I didn't think about him.

Foolish of me to type Kia and not consider his opinion.

I have been looking at the Kia website. I can't tell if Kia's have an available power tailgate.

Please offer your input LP

My daily driver is a 14 RAV4 that I like a lot. It’s AWD and has done great with the little snow that we get.  Not a ton of storage space but plenty for what I usually need. My moms newer Escape has been in the shop multiple times.

Of the models listed I would get the RAV4 then. What about a Subaru Outback or Forester (used)? I generally agree on Jeeps... I have a 4 cylinder TJ that I rarely drive and should probably sell.

This is the criticism I am interested in.

When you say rear diff, I assume you mean in AWD versions.  I have no need for AWD.

What is the deal with the transmission and turbo problems. Design or assembly issues?

They are cheap, new.

Rear diff's make noise and the modules go out and yes on the AWD.

Transmissions start acting and shifting wierd, clutches toast. Also had a couple that had a internal bearing on the passenger side go out.  (It is not the electronic manual pos the focus has for a trans)

Turbo oil lines leak at the turbo. And the line tends to leak at the soft/hard line junction. Gaskets are a piece of crappy paper.

Thanks @LittlePony.

You probably have sold more Kias than any in sales.

It matches a lot of my requirements.

Am I understanding that the only way to actually keep the long warranty period is that it is mandatory to do all service at the dealer. Correct?

$25k
Horsepower: 184 hp
MPG: Up to 23 city / 29 highway

You could get an off lease model for 15-19k easy.

But, that's the same price as a Rav4, and the Toyota has a bit more HP.

What about Mazda CX-5?
Same price point.  People love them. They do look good...

Do you think there is any incentive to buy one now instead of waiting closer to summer?

considering this is the last model year of this generation if you wait until spring or so when the all new 2022 you can get a good clearance deal, might be able to get a grand off a left over 2021, will they have a EX trim left is the question, because they tend to only make the low end LX or LX-S trims the last few months of the production model year

its also a sportage, our mainline bread and butter seller, in other words the model we sell the most off, there is always some sort of dealer or manufacturer deal going on.
