I have a 2019 CR-V and a 2020 Escape Hybrid. They are both excellent vehicles.

considering this is the last model year of this generation if you wait until spring or so when the all new 2022 you can get a good clearance deal, might be able to get a grand off a left over 2021, will they have a EX trim left is the question, because they tend to only make the low end LX or LX-S trims the last few months of the production model year

its also a sportage, our mainline bread and butter seller, in other words the model we sell the most off, there is always some sort of dealer or manufacturer deal going on.

Somebody earlier mentioned the Mazda CX-5. Good gas mileage and very comfortable. We have one and 18,346 miles of trouble free driving.

The one thing I hate about the rav4 is the touchy steering. It's too sensitive.

They need to put a bigger steering wheel in it to take the sensitivity down a bit.

I also don't care for the i4. Though I haven't messed with the newest ones

My personal pick is a Subaru forester

My wife loves her 2019 XLE RAV4 Premium.

I like it too as it met her color requirement and my "Made In Japan" requirement.

The interior storage in the Rav4 is my primary reason for looking at other manufacturers.

I have a '15 Rav that has been great except for that, but my oldest kid is getting it.

My daughter will likely get mine as well when I get a truck. The RAV4 Prime someone mentioned above though may have made me change my mind on getting a new truck. One of those along w/ a beater truck would be nice.

302 hp
0-60 in 5.4 seconds

Faster than the supra in the 5-60, 30-50, and 50-70mph.

It's a hybrid so it will be good on gas too.  It beats the Rav4 hybrid by 2 seconds in the 0-60

I have an Escape for work.

It's bland, and unexciting. But it does what it's supposed t9 do.

We have an RDX, which has been great.

My wife’s 2019 RAV4 is about 18 months old now, a great vehicle.  She had owned a 2007 and a 2012 CRV before that.  The 2019 base model CRV had a 2.4L engine, but the higher trim levels had a little bitty turbo engine.  Grandma said no and chose the RAV4.  We very nearly bought a Hybrid RAV4, I don’t see anything about them anymore, not sure if they still make the hybrid.

Even though I mentioned it earlier I looked at the interior space specs.

If he thinks the Rav4 is small, the CX-5 is smaller

From your requirements OP, get the Rav4.    Reliability is king.
Or look at the KIA Telluride for a little bit bigger.

Looking for a daily driver that will keep the miles off my truck and get better gas mileage. And to hedge of any potential price increases. Basically any bad economic effect that FJB could have.
Have basically ruled out any of the sedans.
Don't want the smallest SUV, but not too big either
Not looking for sporty or performance
Got to have power seat and tailgate.

Choices:
Toyota Rav4
Honda CRV
Ford Escape
Kia?  Don't know which model fits
Others??

Not considering any GM or Nissan product. Or really anything outside the $30k price range.

Have looked at the first 3, and they fit
Don't know if there are any real plus/minus to any particular one, but I do like the Ford best so far.
I have had a Rav4 and it seems solid.
Doesn't the Honda have something weird with the engine or transmission?
Any known problems with the Escape? Ecoboost model

Do what GD does best, offer opinions and hate everything!

My wife has a Hyundai Santa Fe she loves. 2009 purchased new and it sits at about 250,000 miles now. She says she’ll drive it until the wheels fall off.  Still looks good, we’ve put about $600-$700 in it each year the last few years for suspension or drive train stuff. No payment and a few fixes keeps her happy.

I keep trying to get her something newer, but she loves that thing.

Good vehicle

Yep. Hybrid. Don’t knock hybrid drive trains. They’ve come a long way and actually drive better, the gas mileage is just a bonus.

If you can find one.

save for the theta 2 engine our shit just works

our powertrains are not the best nor the most refined, but they are not supposed to be, they are meant instead to be incredibly efficient and cheap

especially on the efficient part as we now are the one and only people with CVVD tech, which is the last grace of conventional camshaft control technology

If I were shopping right now, I would also look at a hybrid RAV4.

You could get an off lease model for 15-19k easy.

But, that's the same price as a Rav4, and the Toyota has a bit more HP.

What about Mazda CX-5?
Same price point.  People love them. They do look good...

I know you said no VW, but their Tiguan is like a mini Atlas.

They are cheap, new.

Our family car is an Atlas and it has been great.  10k service intervals, good technology, pretty solid.

They are both great looking vehicles IMO. I don't know anything about them.

I miss the days when you could get a Rav4 with a 269 HP 3.5L V6. Those cars would scoot, and have a 4WD lock.
