first, i apologize for posting this event info in g.d., but figured there are several mods here interested in this upcoming event.

i got home last night to find a phone message from the club prez at the mapleton gun club.

he apologized for his previous shabby treatment and "brushoff"...and asked if we wanted to rent the range, again.

of course, i said yes! he is checking on available saturdays that are free.

all potential attendees: please post your choices of dates, and i'll try to accomodate.

to those who did not attend last year's bash...ask those that were there to describe the fun.

as usuall, full auto firearms will welcome...and this year, a friend is bringing in a TRAILER full!

stay tuned for details that will be posted in the events forum...i promise!

the event will be held at the same venue as last year's shoot, the mapleton gun outside of east canton, ohio (just off u.s. route 30 and i77).

as soon as a date is confirmed (hopefully later today, tomorrow latest), directions will be posted, instructions as to what to bring along for a day of shooting and meeting members from all 4 gun boarfs (well, 3, if ak47dotnet is really in the tank).

last year's event drew 44 internet shooters, some "interesting" targets, full auto guns to rent and shoot, a great lunch and best of all, the nicest bunch of guys you could imagine.

they came from ill., new york, pa., michigan and one old codger even made it up from TEXAS!

this year, i'ld like to see even more ohio guys show up!

mmk, hopr you can make it! i'm hoping for some time in june, buy will see what dates are open.

scott, i'll try to avoid the 16th (12 is my b-day!).

ed, i'll try to avoid the 23rd, also. i am still in shock over the situation at my "home" board...and didn't want to ruffle any feathers over here. i know there are shell shocked refugees surfing in search of familiar names and topics...i just figured the odds of them seeing this was greater in g.d. than events (and was hoping kuiper wouldn't pull the plug and shift this post untill you and tim read it).

grin...WE NEED YOU! you're the only human being that can possibly keep tim under control! heheh!

all you ohio guys: last time around, we only had a half-dozen or so from the immeadiate vicinity! this this time around, i think we can get 30-40 "locals" to attend. there had to have been 25-30 on ak47dotnet that lived within a few miles of me!

rich...yeah! seems i'm destined to be a "junior" member over here, despite the 8900+ posts at ak47net...heheh. i lurk here, but this site runs like molassas in january on my box/phone line.

ed, i actually registered on this board prior to any of the others (back on the old ar15com, that is). yes, if kelly can "distract" tim and keep him focused on cooking lunch for us, we may get by without tim blowing up the berm!

besides, i need to fill don in on the last major ak47 troll war/flame fest...that discussion should provide hours of laughter!

hey don! wait 'till you see 5the boatload of fast tripods and shoulder fired toys! it's gonna sound like a war zone!

If the date is gonna be around the 23rd or so of June this will be one heck of a way to celebrate  my 40th birthday. Maybe I could tryout 40 different full auto's? Now wouldnt that be a blast!

Cant what for the date to start making plans Campy.

Hope to see tim, mmk, the ed's, at the campgrounds like last year, hope some of the others will make plans to spend the weekend camping instead of driving back late saturday.

I'm good for anything -BUT- the weekend of July 6-8...  Friends from Canton, OH are actually coming over here to visit!

August is also out as well, since I'll be back in Phoenix for more surgery.

Whatever date is scheduled, we will once again have use of the campground at the NTR Canoe  www.canoe-ohio.com.  It's a very nice place in the middle of the woods, but located right next to the interstate.

I just got off the phone with the owner of the livery (very good mom-type friend) and we are set...  Camping is $4.00 per person, per night and should be arranged through me.  I will handle everything for Ann and collect the funds from anyone camping.

Since her rates so reasonable for what she offers, I always like to suggest that everyone pays $5.00 per person/night so as to make a donation of the $1.00 difference to her Wildlife Rehabilitation Fund.  She operates an animal rehab center on the grounds, that is 100% funded through donations.

Canoeing, fishing and even hiking along the historic "Ohio-Erie Canal" are all available from her location in Bolivar, OH.

If we have enough campers that want to kick in a few bucks, I'll cook "The Soup".

In order to feed 15-20 people, it takes about $10/person to do it right!

MMK knows all about "The Soup"...

Ahhhh.... the soup, the soup! I've forgotten about that but since it was mentioned I've gotten a major case of hunger pains.

For anyone that has not had anti's campsoup, the $10 is well spent and I think it really doesnt begin to cover the cost he puts into it.

Just make sure everyone has had a bowl or two before MMK gets close to the soup pot! [:D]

It actually cost me close to $100 to cook all of that, and there were only a few of us.

The $10/person is about right...

I'll be sure to bring a bigger pot next time!  [:D]

I was going to post a question about an Ohio shoot! Count me in Campy. I may be able to talk one of my friends who wants to start shooting into coming down. Is there a limit on how many can come? The camping sounds like it would be a good time also. Keep us informed.

It looks like either the weekends of June 9-10 or June 30 - July 1 would be the best...

I vote for June 9-10!

ouple of questions, is this going to be a 2 day event and what cost is involved? I need to go buy some more ammo now.[:D]

Last summer, it was a 1-day event.

Approximately 60k rounds were fired by the 40 or so of us in about 10 hours...  Ya better start buying ammo now!

drake,

drake, no limit...even if we have to go to the firingline in "shifts"! we can accomodate 30+ on the rifle line as a max (at a time).

tim, we will need two fulltime r.o.'s. i'll do my share!

we need yellow "police line" tape (i have plenty of stakes) to cordon of the fronal area of the "barn". thinking of placing all the tripod m.g.'s to the far end (safety first, save the grass second!)

probably gonna have 6-8 belt-feds (autoboy! where are you!?!) which will be stationary all day.

the event starts blasting at 9am (i'll be onsite the night before for setup, and last shot at 6pm. then, it's head to tim's campsite for a night of partying and laughing at mmk and me!

If it's June 30th, all of the LEGP rifles should be issued. [^]

We'll be coming in sometime on Friday...  If I have my way, we'll drive all night Thursday and arrive sometime early Friday morning.  I wouldn't mind a scenic canoe trip after that long-ass 10hr drive, before relaxing around a fire and cooking soup for the masses.

Why Ed, are you hoping a few show up..?  Maybe you could import a few!

I'm originally from the Canton area and most of my friends are still there as well (you met a couple of them)...  That's the last place I'd ever have any concerns.  My fiercest buddy is a crack shot with his muzzleloader!  [B)]
