Dear AK-47.net Members
The web site specifically the web board has become a huge financial burden upon me. I am currently in college and cannot afford to pay $3000.00 a month for a server. My current provider has been kind enough to allow the site to remain until we find a solution. Unfortunately the cost and time required to maintain this site exceeds my budget at this time. I will consider offers to sell the site, however they must be in the best interests of the site. Unfortunately I am forced to close the forums until a solution can be found. Although I hate to see another gun-specific site go down, I never was impressed with AK47.net. A little too sophomoric for my tastes, and I learn much more here while having the same amount of fun.

I'll take my AR.com anyday of the week =)

That site was the best man. It was the first time I could ask questions about guns and the finer things in life with out having to put up with annoying geezers or anal retentive gun cultists/militants. Plus I could say the word shit (see last sentence).

Not knocking this site, just never could deal with the layout or amount of traffic.

i also hate to see it go,but lets be honest here,in the last few months the average age of the membership sunk to about 15 years old and lack of any moderation of any kind on the part of the owner,allowed the inmates to take over the asylum.i'm sure our mods here are now on red alert to make sure that the Escapees don't take over this asylum.mmk

Just a reminder to all AK47 devotees,on the main page there is a link to an AK 47 section with several forums.If enough of you want your own space for GD, I could ask the Ed and GoatBoy to add a GD,although I would rather have all of us together to learn about both the AK and AR.

While I dig this site and the people on it. I also like AK47.net. The lack of moderation is what caused it to be fun. Sure it would get out of hand once in a while but all in alla small price to pay for all the info and even the occasional flame war. Some of the funniest posts came from flame wars.

news group - then it can never go away.
Usenet was the original discussion groups
on internet and they are still very popular today.
If ar15.com is ever is in financial trouble
we can do the same thing. We should start
documenting all the good info in a massive
FAQ....

I wouldn't come here if the moderators when away and it became like it was when the new sight first came up.

"Moderator" - like a life guard on a public beach. You can still get naked and bark at the moon but just stay out of the deep water.

Without them the flame wars go on and on. If I want that I watch Jerry Springer.

Without them the porno soon creeps in. If I wanted that I'd become 18 again and go to [url]www.penthouse.com/crackwhores[url].

I really enjoy learning more and sharing what I know here. When it turns into a KKK or porno site we all suffer. A few bad apples ruin in for the rest of us. Just a couple of guys peeing in the pool ruin the waters for the rest of us.

I will also miss the AL-47 site. As a new owner of an AK I found it was very informative and educational. The t&a and KKK shit was annoying, but I still liked the site. My good buddy is an AR-15 owner and invited me to goin this site. I hope there is a possibility for an AK-47 GD. I think the AK and the AR make for a perfect world in a discussion group. Two very diffrent aproaches to the assult rifle!

ak47dotnet was THE FINEST firearms board on the net.

do not judge the entire site by the g.d. forum.

the individual firearms forums were a "who's who" of the finest ak minds inthe country. the database was a wealth of technical and historical info.

the oft abused "freedom" of posting that they offered was refreshing in an era of censorship, bias and homogenous blathering.

certainly, the site attracted some extremists...but it was a bastion a both freedom and knowledge.

i regret its' passing...and can only hope that someone has the means and initiative to create a similar entity.

Yeah, I'm a AR fan, and I also hate to see it goe. The AK-net was the first firearms related discussion board I came across. I really enjoyed the the information, diverse opinion, and the freedom of speech that was practiced on that board. It seemed that anyone could say anything they wanted there whether other people agreed with it or not. This was the second gun related message board that I came across and have spent most of my time here, but I will truly miss AK-47.net alot, sad to see it goe.
