They make good targets. Or you could build a pyramid of them and pack them with tannerite

Find a unit overseas in Iraq and send them to a soldier in it.  A friend of mine in the Guard whose unit is in Ramadi is always asking me to send tapes and DVDs.  I sent him all the tapes I had DVD dupes of already.

OK, dumb question,  How do you  convert tapes to DVD?  Can you do it yourself?

Thanks

You need a DVD recorder.  Next, you'll need the cables to run from your VHS to the DVD recorder.  Hit Play on your VHS and Record on your DVD recorder.  At least thats how I did it from Beta to VHS...

With a computer:
You will need:
DVD burner
Video card with video input or;
A stand alone video converter
A DVD program

Hook your video out to the video card or the video converter, hook the sound up to the sound card in, open your DVD creator program, set it up, start the video and hit record on the DVD program.

I did 15 video tapes like this, it works great.

You can also buy one of those stand alone DVD players/recorders, like the ones with Tivo and the DVD burner.

Hook up the video into the DVD burner, hook up the sound and hit play on the video and record on the DVD unit.

Thanks guys.  I like the idea of doing it through the computer.   Cheaper I think.

Gotta work on it.  Tired of VHS and got DVD now.

I have a Sansui VHS to DVD recorder. My brother gave it to me for Christmas. I haven't test drove it yet, he claims it's the top of the line. We'll see.

Save them for SHTF. Burn them in a confined area and the smoke will be toxic?   ; )

Better yet, HP makes a stand-lone DVD burner that connects directly to a video source and will capture your tapes.  However, I'm not sure how VHS copyright technology would work with this.

Best Way To SUCCESSFULLY Unload My VHS Tapes...

(1) Point the VHS player in a safe direction.

(2) Keep your finger off the play button.

(3) Press the eject button.

(4) The tape should unload.

(5) Be sure to verify that the player is unloaded by looking inside.

At least, that's how I recommend you do it. [BD]

There are a lot of stores that purchase used videos and cd's for resale.  You can try one of those.  Also, go to a pawn shop.  A lot of those will buy old videos.  But, I prefer what RikWriter said.  You can send them to the troops over seas. I don't know where you are located, but there should be a military base somewhere near you.  Call them up and see how to donate them.  You may even get a tax deduction as a charitable contribution.

When my Uncle was at sea, I sent him lots of used VHS tapes. The Swabbies were thrilled.
