That thing was actually an aircraft carrier itself... 2 (iirc) 'Goblin' interceptors were to be carried on underwing hardpoints, for launch in case of enemy fighter attack...

Um, you must be smoking something there, pardner. [:D]

(1) The Goblin was originally developed for the B-29 but later reassigned to the B-36 as the carrier plane.

(2) It was to be carried in the bomb bay, not on wing hard points.

(3) Project was cancelled in 1949, way before the XB-70 was conceived.

(4) The XB-70 design required a specific wing geometry and was designed to fly at Mach 3.  No way you're gonna hang something that big on the wing.
