I must have some copper build up? I'm running a wire brush a few times then using a jag to clean with. I've used up 10 patches so far, I guess I need to keep doing this til it comes out clean right?

Whatever you do ---------- do not---- I repeat [b]do not[/b] put solvent in and let it soak for any amount of time, like more than a couple hours, it will cause damage, the solvent is corrosive .

WOW took 20 patches to get it all out. I guess the ol hoppes #9 isn't getting all the copper out. I used this Barnes solvent for copper and it works great.

Sweets 7.62 is the best I have found for copper fouling

Bump for Sweet's 7.62. Great stuff. Another good one is RB-17. Up until 5 years ago, I never paid attention to copper fouling. Never knew anything about it.
I was "turned onto" removal of copper fouling by an armorer who told me to clean any rifle or pistol as good as I could with whatever I used, then to run a brush soaked with RB-17 through the barrel. Whoa. Copper fouling in my .270 that's been there since 1977. Now I do the thorough fouling removal after every third shooting trip with the handguns and ARs, after every shooting trip with the .270 and '06. |

Hoppe's #9 does not remove copper at all.
It is for powder residue. |

FWIW, the solvent will also react with the brush and leave traces of blue on your patch even when the barrel is copper free.
