I know we’ve done this before, but we’re overdue to do it again.
What are your favorite WWII movies?

(In no particular order, just a few that come to mind)
1) Midway
2) Tora! Tora! Tora!
3) The Longest Day
4) Saving Private Ryan
5) Das Boot
Although not a film, Band Of Brothers was of course outstanding.

What else y’all got?

The Great Escape isn’t really 100% accurate, but it is a good movie, a la Dirty Dozen action.

Fat Man, about the Manhattan Project with John Cusack & Paul Newman was actually quite good.

Well duh, but it's not technically a WWII movie, it's a Western set in WWII.

A Bridge Too Far has always been one of my favorites.

Along with  Saving Private Ryan, The Longest Day, Band of Brothers, The Pacific, and Downfall.

I recently saw Stalingrad and was impressed. Been meaning to watch that for a long time and was not disappointed. Great movie.

The Big Red One was my great-uncle Bob's favorite WWII movie, I watched it with him more than once when I was a kid which not only gave me a better grasp of the history (he was a rifleman in the 1st ID from Torch through the end of the war) but also greatly contributed to my rather advanced grasp of the nuances of English for my age...much to my mom's dismay.

Hell is for Hero's, To Hell and Back, and one of the most realistic for its time, Hell to Eternity. Even as a kid I hated the fact that they used U.S. vehicles and aircraft painted as enemy. ruined it for me.

The Longest Day

A Bridge too Far

The Bridge at Remagen

Guns of Navarrone

Those were my staple growing up, along with the TV show Black Sheep Squadron.

Fury is pretty good too, I enjoyed the combat scenes.

If you like the movie read the book.  What was Murphy thinking in real life in the scene where he wins the Medal of Honor by standing on a burning tank destroyer  and machine gunning German soldiers?  It was the first time in weeks that his feet were warm.

C'Mon, GD! Nobody has mentioned the best WWII action movie ever filmed?

They Were Expendable - Original Theatrical Trailer

Directed by John Ford, USN, and starring Robert Montgomery, USN and John Wayne as skippers of PT boats battling against overwhelming Japanese forces. The script follows the real-life exploits of Vice Admiral John D. Bulkeley, who earned the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross for his actions in combat.

As a bonus, it features the ravishing Donna Reed at the peak of her beauty

Escena de No eran imprescindibles (They Were Expendable) de John Ford.1945.

And that scene, that remarkable scene, where Dad has just watched the repaired PT boats leave his drydocks and is waiting for the Japanese to arrive

Here's my top five:

1. They Were Expendable
2. Battleground
3. The Longest Day
4. Twelve O'Clock High
5. In Which We Serve
