Ready for a really cheap and durable finish?
I've got an L1A1 KlintonSporter with the Imbel receiver. The "new blue" finish from Century Arms wasn't even blued; it was flaking off and easily removed with my fingernail. Solution?
I carefully taped off the stock; removed the handguards and taped off any holes or crevices; and proceded to use a green 3M ScotchGard pad with 100% rubbing alcohol to get the offending crap off the gun.
Finish was applied with: RUSTOLEUM BBQ BLACK 1300 DEGREE HIGH TEMP PAINT...
I applied it evenly, and in several coats. I let it dry for a week. Do not hurry here.
After it was dry, I reassembled the gun and took it out for some shooting. At one point, I ran a 20-rd. mag all the way and the gun was SMOKIN'!
Any and all residual grease or wet paint was immediately cured at that moment.
The finish has lasted over 4 years. It is matte black and smooth. Looks good. Costs about 5 bucks. Good Luck.
