STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO — Steamboat Springs School District officials announced Tuesday that teachers at Strawberry Park Elementary had confiscated Tide laundry detergent pods from some students at the school.

Tide Pods have been in the news recently after numerous children and teens have chosen to take part in the "Tide Pod Challenge," in which they try eating a Tide Pod, filming the activity and posting the video on YouTube.

"This is obviously an unsafe and dangerous activity," said Superintendent Brad Meeks in a letter to parents scheduled to go out Tuesday afternoon.

Meeks said teachers who confiscated the pods Tuesday morning reported it to principals, who let Meeks know.

"The principals and health staff are following up with those students and families," Meeks said.

According to the American Association of Poison Control Centers, centers have received nearly 50,000 calls over the last five years related to exposure to liquid laundry packets.

Side effects from ingesting a laundry packet can be serious and could include seizures, pulmonary edema, respiratory arrest, coma and even death.

Because you have to pour the detergent into the cap and stop when it gets to the #1, #2, or #3 depending on how much stuff you're washing?

When I go on a long vacation, I like to pack less stuff and do a quick load or 2 halfway through. These things are great to bring along and not having to buy detergent.

Pouring liquid detergent is still a bigger pain than pods, though I'm an "All" pod user not Tide. You never get any drips on your hands, cap, bottle, washer, etc, and you can do it in the dark.

Kids are so f'ing STOOPID these days. Seriously, the dumbest shit that kids did when I was a kid (70s-80s) was the whole "party til you puke" stupidity. I didn't drink and wasn't into puking. So I've never understood that. But knowingly swallowing poison, huffing paint, etc... WTF???

Not hard. And I've never even used a pod. But still... it's beyond insane that we're headed towards the detergent companies pulling these things because a bunch of dumbasses are ingesting them. Society has devolved to the point that I'm thinking that maybe it would be good if LE, and other organizations should just host a huge event in each city every year where they put out a bunch of tables and stack them high with seized heroin and meth, and alcohol, Tide pods, paint cans, etc... and then invite all legal adults who want to come and partake as much of the stuff as they want. Only rule is that you can't leave for 48 hours. You wanna kill yourself with chemicals? Then get to it and spare us from the drain of resources. Don't party until you puke. Party until you're DEAD!!!
