I know it's an older movie, but it's taken me a while to watch it.

What a movie. I need to read the book.

I was on a few funeral details while at Polk and would talk to the escort after the service, they were always good guys, no matter the rank. What a detail to perform.

Not a vet yet that was a damn good movie. Very minimal dialog yet very powerful movie. And President Trump did a great job when that Seal was killed by meeting his body when it arrived. Reminded me of that movie and how they have the respect and will to do what they do.

I was deployed, stuck in the blender, while a buddy back home, was activated on IRR doing notifications back home in our podunk small town filled community.

Poor fucker tried like hell to get back on active duty going in, and got the big green weenie.

Ripper was easier than ringing the doorbells he had to face.

I've been witness to notifying NOK, it is awful. I watched TC a couple years ago, it brought back a lot of memories.. Rendering final honors and participating in burial details were some of my proudest moments as a Marine.

The thing that got me about that scene was how that soldier was fighting so hard to keep it together. He was doing ok, but you could tell it was killing him.

The acting and portrayals in that movie were really good.

I was never a Casualty Assistance Officer, but was on plenty of funeral details when I was a lieutenant. Every single flag I ever gave to the NOK was rough. I never made it through a funeral with a dry eye.

No.

Thats real. Until after Vietnam, casualty notification was done by Telegram

My grandmother's first husband died in WW2. She kept the telegram.

+1 It was both the best thing and hardest thing I did while an air force officer. Most depressing funeral I did was a retired USAF master sergeant. It was just me, the enlisted burial detail, the pastor, and one lone middle aged lady. 20 or so empty chairs and that one lonely woman, who I found out was the daughter. And to get the mood just right it was pouring rain the whole time. A real life lesson that day.
