I'm torn between wanting this to work because we need 'Murican space ships, and wanting Musk to fail big time.

I'll just pretend he is not involved.

Why was it only a 3 engine landing?   Was that intentional as a test to see if it could be done?

Most of the landings are only one engine.  Landings from high energy orbits require three engines typically.

Huh.  The way the announcer was talking, it sounded like the difficulty was increased.  Was it coming back from a higher altitude or something?

For some reason, the webcast kept crashing like every 3-8 seconds on my phone.  "Something went wrong, tap to retry."

Kinda saw it go through the app.  Walked outside to see if I could see it, but it's too small in the daylight to see anything of it from Jax.  At night, no problem.  And if it was as big as the shuttle, it wouldn't be a problem in daylight.  Oh well.

The landing burn is usually one engine.

A normal landing only uses 1 engine.  they had to use 3 since it was coming in so fast.  Using 3 means they decelerate faster but also use what little fuel they have left much faster.  So the margin for error is much tighter.

Right now December, would plan on that moving to Q1 '18. It's a pretty significant redesign to enable a much more expedient ground flow. One example is that Block V will not require its legs to be removed for reprocessing. Big push at the moment is getting SLC-40 back in action so that LC-39 can be stood down for modifications for Falcon Heavy.

Did anyone notice the paint burning off the grid fins this flight? That should be the last time that happens.
