I'll be going to my first gunshow today (and maybe tomorrow) here in Calgary!
What would GD like to see from behind enemy lines? Anyone else going to be there? If I see any BFL, I'll say hi. |

How's the selection of beef jerky? Up there, is it mostly moose? What's the best marinade for moose?

You guys can buy NIB Norinco 1911's and Tokarev pistols. I envy you.

I've thought of one question I'll ask:
"What effect will the post-presidential election industry slowdown/contraction have on the Canadian market?" What else would y'all like me to ask? |

Take some pics and post them. Interested to see what a Canadian gun show looks like.

How do you pronounce Calgary? Cal-gary or Cal-guh-ree?
I thought all Canadians pronounced it the first way, but I work with a Newfie and he pronounces it the second way, like most Americans do. |

What's weird is this Newfie has zero accent here in northern MN and he's only lived in the states for 3 years. His family has come down a few times to visit and I've met them. His brothers don't have an accent either, and they now live in other parts of Canada. His dad on the other hand...wow. Can't understand a goddam thing he says. View Quote They can be quite difficult to understand, even to the rest of Snow Mexicans. |

The Calgary Easter weekend show is the best gun show in Canada, has been for years.
It's put on by the Alberta Arms and Cartridge Collectors Association. Ought to be some good deals around with the Alberta economy in the dumper at the moment. |

I do like the Thorncliffe gunshow better, it doesn't seem to attract the thugs and there are far less people that go there that have not been indoctrinated on the proper way to use toilet paper among other personal hygiene practices. |

They can be quite difficult to understand, even to the rest of Snow Mexicans. For the record, you're absolutely correct about Newfies being damn near impossible to understand. My Mom was born and raised there (born a Newfie citizen and made a Canadian citizen the following month when NL joined Canada), and I lived there for about a year while in high school. They really do speak a completely different language, due to the long time remoteness of the island, as well as the mish-mash of several languages and dialects (English, Irish-English, French, native/First Peoples, etc.). But, when you learn to decipher what they're saying, it can be funny as hell to listen to them. just don't be a damn mainlander and try to tell a Newfie joke. that's a good way to end up black, blue, and floating in the Bay of Islands. |

Take a picture. Lots of five round short barreled beaver shooters?

If I say, "Eh" enough.
Could I pass for a local? And thus, be able to buy a Garand? Or SKS, whatever else you guys (up there) got cheap? BTW....I'll pass on the drinking milk from a bag thing. Aloha, Mark |

I'm back from the show!
I started at one end, and walked all the way to the other end. I was so enraptured, I forgot to take pictures. But I'm going back tomorrow! The picture policy: They're allowed, if the vendor gives permission. I was pleasantly surprised, not as bad as what y'all describe your gunshows being like. I got there just before 9:30 this morning...and the line was out the door, at least a thousand people. It wasn't very busy in the afternoon, after about 2 it was quite empty. |
