Rap has had a deleterious impact on American culture by; legitimizing fraud, canonizing violent criminals, exemplifying gang membership and degrading the American dialect of the English language by making the slang used by the least articulate and educated segments of society mainstream. What started as fun, dance themed poetry set to a musical beat at the end of  the Disco Era has culminated in employers advertising for employees with the slogan "Get your side hustle on", where in the context of this usage the word "hustle" would most commonly mean to defraud or swindle.

I blame rap for being the driving force behind the death of American culture.

It's not rap but those who fostered it upon the youth.

The media is agenda driven.

Actually it's the rappers, not rap.

I mean football stars basketball players.

Well, it's certainly not nordic metal that's downfalling our culture.

They didn't help, but not the smoking gun cause.

To deny it played a factor is blindness.

To censor it is unconstitutional.

Little Susy and Joe listening to that shit unchecked was because of the poor parenting of the day. Then it was everyone gets a trophy because Susy and Joe couldn't stand not getting anything for sucking the while season. Then it was they couldn't take red pen on their tests. Then it was racism/sexism causing all the woes.

I'm pretty sure it's Bill Murray's fault.

Caddyshack was mostly harmless.

Then there was Meatballs and the downward slide began.

Stripes was a major salvo.

Ghostbusters sealed the deal.

Scrooged just nailed the coffin shut.

The oddballs like Groundhog's Day and Lost in Translation exist simply to reaffirm the message.

We all know that Elvis and that devil rock and roll had already ruined America long before rap even came about.

To be serious, no it is not responsible for anything. Modern "gangsta rap" is simply a case of a certain consumer demographic smelling their own farts... more specifically it is a bunch of record companies making money off of selling a certain consumer demographic its own fart smells. The music is simply an extension of the society that creates it and consumes it, like an oroboros. The culture is celebrating the music which is celebrating the culture. You could say the same for every musical or entertainment related thing that caters to a subcategory of society.

LOL no.  We were on a downward spiral years, maybe decades, before rap even came into existence.

Take your pick, mix-n-match, all or none, some or none.

1.  Black migration from the rural south to the urban north.
2.  Women working during WW2.
3.  Counterculture (Hippies) of the 60's.
4.  Sexual Revolution of the 60's.
5.  Women's Lib.
6.  Two income families.
7.  Single parent families.
8.  Narcissistic lifestyle of the 70's-80's.
9.  Jazz, the Devil's Music.
10.  The Rock and/or Roll of the 50's, 60's, 70's on.
11.  Disco, Hip-Hop, Rap music of the 70's on up.
12.  So-called "Separation of church and state".

What else?

That is like saying guns are what cause murders and suicides.

Gangster Rap is a symptom of a failed culture that is alive in our inner cities(early rap was much less dire and not Gangster orientated, for the most part). Look past the failed culture and you will find LBJ and his contribution to the welfare state...and on...and on...

You have to look at our culture as a whole to find the root problems.

Yep, the root is the root of everything bad in America today, which is progressive liberalism that among a plethora of other detrimental things destroyed the family structure. One of the things that has evolved from this destruction is RAP.

False.

Guns are an inanimate object which can only be wielded in the manner chosen by the person using it.

Rap, and any other form of "art", is a vehicle for conveying ideas, values and language which have the power to influence others towards behaviors and beliefs.

(Typically black) ghetto culture is responsible for the violence, and deterioration of inner cities all over the US.

This is a part of that culture.

Excepting the islam shitholes in certain places, anywhere that isn't the dominant culture has fractions of a percent of the same issues.

More the entertainment industry as a whole. Rappers handle one segment of the population, people like Jason Mraz and Miley Cyrus handle another segment and so on. It's a big team effort.

Meanwhile at the RNC headquarters:

violent crime rates are near record lows.

Rap certainly hasn't helped but I think it is too much to suggest that it is the root cause of the downfall of American culture.  I think there s probably a stronger argument that television or the Internet was more of a problem
