War on Drugs made rap music.

Had a similar problem in the 20's-30's. We ended prohibition to counter it.

Guns are an inanimate object which can only be wielded in the manner chosen by the person using it.

Rap, and any other form of "art", is a vehicle for conveying ideas, values and language which have the power to influence others towards behaviors and beliefs.

You are taking the statement too literal as I used the statement about firearms to parallel the mode of thinking.

To Liberals, weapons cause violence, so they need to be blamed. That statement is inherently false, and it has been proven to be so.

Jazz,Rock,Blues,Metal,Rap, Etc. cause violence/misogyny/rape/bad stuff,  so it needs to be blamed. That statement is inherently false and has been proven to be so.

In both cases, the inanimate object and the "art" form are not the cause. You have to look deeper into American Culture to see what the real root of the problem is, not a knee jerk reaction to put blame on someone or something.

LOL no.  We were on a downward spiral years, maybe decades, before rap even came into existence.

Take your pick, mix-n-match, all or none, some or none.

1.  Black migration from the rural south to the urban north.
2.  Women working during WW2.
3.  Counterculture (Hippies) of the 60's.
4.  Sexual Revolution of the 60's.
5.  Women's Lib.
6.  Two income families.
7.  Single parent families.
8.  Narcissistic lifestyle of the 70's-80's.
9.  Jazz, the Devil's Music.
10.  The Rock and/or Roll of the 50's, 60's, 70's on.
11.  Disco, Hip-Hop, Rap music of the 70's on up.
12.  So-called "Separation of church and state".

Like Obama, it's more of a symptom then the disease.  Why did white suburban youths seek to emulate ghetto culture?

Growing up in a low-middleclass neighborhood in the 1980s Amongst third-generation Irish and Italians; The last thing that anyone aspired to be was Black.  Then there was Eddie Murphy and the Cosbys and Will Smith and Basketball, and Rap.   And black was the coolest.

And of course white kids adopted the worst parts of the culture.

Rap is just the most visible example of the desperation and degeneracy that has overtaken at least half of our population.

It spoke to the anger and hopelessness of a generation raised in the Cold War, where the odds were stacked against you, everything was illegal, and the cops were everywhere, just waiting for you to screw up.

And if somehow you didn't screw up, (or didn't get caught) the taxman would be stopping by, to take half your shit.

If you want to blame anybody you can blame Ze Germans.
We are still living the aftermath of World War I.

No.   Every generation has their music, and the adults all think it's the end of civilization.   The problem IMO is the breakup of families and hoodrat kids growing up w/o good role models in families with no working adults.  They're taught to look down on the people who are dumb enough to work.  They're taught that being polite is a sign of weakness.  Instead of looking up to their dad or their grandpa they look up to the drug dealer on the corner w/ the cash and the bling.

Has it? Our courts have refused to hold "artists" responsible for the actions of people when third parties have blamed the artists for the actions of their children, that is true. However, our courts have also held that speech can incite people to action.

There is also the difference between rap and other forms of musical art in that rappers often brag about coming from criminal street gang backgrounds and later becoming rappers. Rappers have also been involved in gang activities, including murder, after becoming rappers. Gangs, crime and violence are inseparable from rap.

Metallica may sing about violence, but they have never participated in any actual violence. The rappers who have participated in violent crime are too numerous to recount.

LUCILLE BOGAN - Shave 'Em Dry (1935)

I got nipples on my titties, big as the end of my thumb
I got somethin' between my legs'll make a dead man come
Oh daddy, baby won't you shave 'em dry?
Now, draw it out!

Want you to grind me baby, grind me until I cry
Say I fucked all night, and all the night before baby
And I feel just like I wanna, fuck some more
Oh great God daddy

Grind me honey and shave me dry
And when you hear me holler baby, want you to shave it dry
I got nipples on my titties, big as the end of my thumb
Daddy you say that's the kind of 'em you want, and you can make 'em come
Oh, daddy shave me dry

And I'll give you somethin' baby, swear it'll make you cry
I'm gon' turn back my mattress, and let you oil my springs
I want you to grind me daddy, 'til the bell do ring
Oh daddy, want you to shave 'em dry

Oh great God daddy, if you can't shave 'em baby won't you try?
Now if fuckin' was the thing, that would take me to heaven
I'd be fuckin' in the studio, till the clock strike eleven
Oh daddy, daddy shave 'em dry

I would fuck you baby, honey I'd make you cry
Now your nuts hang down like a damn bell sapper
And your dick stands up like a steeple
Your goddam ass-hole stands open like a church door

And the crabs walks in like people
Ow, shit!
Ooh! Baby, won't you shave 'em dry
A big sow gets fat from eatin' corn
And a pig gets fat from suckin'

Reason you see this whore, fat like I am
Great God, I got fat from fuckin'
Eeeeh! Shave 'em dry

My back is made of whalebone
And my cock is made of brass
And my fuckin' is made for workin' men's two dollars
Great God, round to kiss my ass
Oh! Whoo, daddy, shave 'em dry

Rap by itself, no.

It's one small piece of a disgusting culture that was allowed to metastasize into full-blown societal cancer. Rappers are .

The minute I find out someone listens to rap they're blacklisted. I don't associate with degenerate scum. I'll deal with them if forced to due to circumstances (such as in a work environment) but on a "just business" basis only.

That's definitely dirty, but it's not even close to what I am talking about.

First off it is extremely obscure. I doubt that you could find five people out of a thousand who'd ever heard of her. Conversely, rap is extremely mainstream, to the point that day time television uses gangsta rap in advertisement, such as the new Bud Light commercial which uses a rap from Ice-T.

Second, it is glorifying sex, which while being a theme of rap is not the sole theme of rap. Crime and violent crime are more problematic theme of rap which has been normalized by rap.

Old school hip hop is great.  It tackled all sorts of subjects and became an oral history of sorts for NYC and, later, other urban areas.  You may not like it, and that's fine, but it used to be legit cultural music of urban America.

Modern rap is shit.

Sorta how country music used to be about the experience of living in a mutual aid, agriculturally-based community, and now it's just millionaire hipsters in pre-ripped jeans singing trite lyrics about tractors and light beer.

Money/commercialism ruined it.
