My early morning surprise is learning that sometime in the very recent past my cat found and killed a small mammal inside our house.

This looks like a short tailed shrew, right? Really doesn't look like a mouse.

Good boy, Max!

It's just a mole but you might want to have it removed.

In before vole, and I'm going with mole.  My cat loves to hunt all these varmints around my deck, not exactly sure what they always are.

ETA:  changing my guess as shrew, since I just caught one exactly like that in a peanut butter baited mouse trap in my shed and it looks exactly like your pics.  No webbed feet.  And now I get to vote!

I first thought it was a shrew, but that third OP pic appears to have front webbed feet, just not spread out, which is why I went with mole.

Nice Bengal, and it is a mole.

That's a mole.  Probably Russian.  Same kind that infiltrated the DNC and Podesta's email.

Nice Bengal OP

At a glance I could almost mistake yours for mine. The main difference I see is mine has stripes a little further down his front legs.

I've definitely seen that playful batting and tail twitch many times before

Awesome cats

Wife woke up before me, she stepped on it while navigating to the kitchen in the dark.

So the resulting rukus woke me, after inspection the critter was dumped in the trash.

Kitteh appears to have mauled it and then punctured the neck, he seems to be doing fine. Inspected him for any battle wounds and it looks to be a flawless victory.

Did not know that. Our dogs love to dig them up in the yard. Will have to keep an eye on them as they eat anything they can get their paws on
