Gobots sucked, imo. They were the cheap leftover crap you got when your mom and dad were lazy and didn't get to Toys R Us or Children's Palace in time to get Transformers.
|
|
I kind of liked them, the cartoon wasn't too bad and the toys didn't have a lot of parts to break or lose. Yeah they were a knockoff, but still not bad.
ETA: Wait a minute, GoBots came out in 1983 and Transformers came out in 1984? |

The Super Gobots were pretty cool. I had the tank, the black porsche and the silver porsche.
While they weren't as neat as the transformers, at least they didn't require a bunch of detachable small parts to transform. And those Super Gobots had rubber tires, detailed interiors, metal bodies and other features like transformers had. |
|
|
Gobots, they go great with that set of Megablocks, and the perpetual flaming bag of shit on your porch from some "random" neighborhood miscreant.
But hey, at least little Timmy is much more excited about walking the dog, so there's that. |
|
It was ok to play with gobots, so long as you knew and understood that you would have your but kicked after school by the kids who played with transformers, as they knew that as soon as they was done beating up the gobots kids they would get a beat down from the GI Joe kids.

Gobots were what you watched if Transformers wasn't on TV (back when you had NO choice lol)
Yes they SUCKED. The show sucked, the toys sucked, lol. |

My parents were kind of poor. So I had more GoBots figures than Transformers. I watched both shows because I liked them both. Of course I liked Transformers more.

Even in the GoBots cartoon, you still saw the robot's faces when they transformed into shopping carts or basketball hoops or whatever other retarded fucking thing they had them transform into.
They didn't even try. |

View Quote I can't remember if it was that same year or not but my brother got Shockwave. No doubt, it was cool. Those two transformers were on a different level. Truly tier 1 shit. Still, I was always a little uncomfortable with Shockwave in the gun form. Sorta broke through the 4th wall. It was a common debate in our house. "Who's holding him? Did you just enter the cartoon? He can be a gun if he wants but you better find another transformer to hold him or else he's just gonna lay there while Jetfire bombs him." |

I remember when I received Shock Wave for a present and my parents had purchased it from JC Pennys (they actually had a toy section in the early 80s). We returned him shortly thereafter on account of his sound effects having failed. I never got another one in its place. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Gobots were built like Matchbox cars. Transformers were bigger and better built in every way possible.
