I like the Remington Golden Saber 124 grn +p, but my supply is dwindling and I need to replace it. I can't seem to find the +p online or in local shops anywhere, if I can find Golden Sabers anywhere at all for that matter.
So, what load do you like in 9mm, and/or where can I pick up the 124 +p Golden Saber? |
|
During winter months for more penetration I carry the heavier 147 Grain Winchester Supreme round. During summer months people don't wear heavy clothing so I carry the lighter 124 grain Remington Golden Sabers.
edited: had time to come back and edit post for clarity. |

Performance-wise, how does a 9mm+P load stack up against the .40? I have a Sig P226 in 9mm that never sees the light of day as far as daily carry but would like to for the hi-capacity mags I have for it. I carry the Sig P229 in .40 S&W.

Speer 124 gr. +P Gold Dot HPs. Ammoman has them in 250 round loose cartons for $89 per 500 rounds.

what sashmore said. Ammoman also has 115gr and 147gr golddots.
|
|
Speer 124 Gold Dot in a full size nine, 124+P GD in the compact.

View Quote yeah, this is great stuff for the price I have some of the 127gr +P+ Ranger too (RA9TA) & I still like the Corbon +P 115gr & 125gr last stuff i got from them used Speer bullets (just HP's not the GDHP's) |
|
I've been carrying CorBon 115 gr +P for years, but I think I am going to switch to a heavier +P round.....maybe something in a 124 grain.

Just remember the Speer packed loose in 250 round boxes is range ammo only.

View Quote There were problems with the primers. It was problematic enough for Speer to deem the ammo unsuitable for law enforcement. I wouldn't risk it myself, especially since I can just buy a couple of boxes of ammo that I know are good and use that for when it counts. The bulk stuff is great to practice with, although I'm not sure the price is really that good. $10/50 for ammo Speer said they sell at a "substantial discount" may not be that great of a deal. |

Winchester Ranger 147Gn RA9T
If that is unavailable, then anything from Black Hills, CCI, Georgia Arms, or Pro-load, loaded with the 124Gn Gold Dot Bullet. |

Winchester Black Talons
Are these old school or something? They used to be the sh*t but no one mentions them much on these boards... I need to start shootin my 9 more! For some silly reason I think that if they are banned(ish), they gotta be good, please show me the errors in my ways. gilfrd |

If I remember correctly, they stopped selling ammo that actually says "black talon" on the box about, hmmmm 5 years ago at least? Which means that any ammo that you find that says "black talon" is at least 5 years old. Which means that you're trusting your life to ammo that's been sitting around for 5 years? Personally I don't like to carry ammo for more than 6 months, let alone 5 years. Try the Rangers, they are the same thing IIRC. |

I carry Federal Classic 147gr JHP in mine. But I'm thinking of changing to either Cor-Bon, Winchester SXT, or Federal Classic 124gr Hydrashock +P. Of course I just use the cheap FMJ while at the range.

I like either 147 Fed. Hydra-shok or for up close and personal Glaser. The Glaser doesn't do much for hard shell penetration but it sure as hell makes a good wound channel.

Ranger 147gr
My 9mm is not my goto gun anymore, but when it is. |

They changed the name to "Ranger XP" and quit painting them black, same quality.
Put away that sissy gun and get a .45![flame] and please spare us the 9mm hp > .45 hardball bs! stoke your .45 with hp's too! |

But Ranger SXT's are cheaper, newer and don't have a bad name. If you have noticed they are also what many of the above people use, myself included. Winchester 127gr Ranger SXT +P+ Edited to add a link so you can see some data on these rounds. http://www.winchester.com/law/help/pdf.eye?get=LE2002.pdf |

View Quote The Glaser typically gives you less than 5" of penetration. It is not quite worthless, but close, when you need to STOP your attacker. Check out the thread below, which will give you a number of loads to choose from that have all met FBI's testing specs (which are almost universally accepted as the standard for anti-personnel ammunition). Federal 9BPLE +P+ 115gr HP
SIG P226 with one in the pipe and 14 in the mag. That's when I'm not carrying my .45 or .357. |
|
I happen to have a box sitting right here.
I took a tactical pistol class with Chuck Taylor. He recommended 147gr SXTs if you're using 9mm. |
|
cor-bon 115gr +p in the large frames, 115gr SilverTips in the small frames.
|

I use those fiocchi 147gr rounds that cheaper then dirt had at a deal awhile back. They look just like the SXT's I got a few boxes of it I fired off over one of them they always functioned.
And I also got a 45 |

Carry Federal 9BPLE +p+ 115gr in my Sig 239 in the summer and a Sig 245 with 185gr +p Hornadys when things cool down a bit........UNDERDOG
