The Dems will just fillibuster the vote for this as well. The Repubs really aren't any further ahead. Also the Dems will come out swinging and tell the public the Republicans want to change the rules to "bypass the will of the people" and "pack the courts with right wing racists judges".

Sometimes the longer term consequences for these kinds of changes can be hard to figure.
The recall of Gov. Davis in CA may end up tainting his predecessor with all the things that dragged Davis down. The prize goal in all this is control of the legislature in 2010 when the new census will trigger re-districting. Democrats are nearly invincible in most of their areas due to careful work in re-districting after 2000. |
