they've got to be using specialized video cards to be running that many monitors in sync off of multiple cpus. distributed computing, like beowulf for linux?
and how could you ever sell guns for computers? for shame. |

"This is just a basic set of pages to show what I have done useing Wideview software, Multi Monitors and Fs2002 Panel Interior view Bitmap's. 9 PC's & 13 monitors. Server PC is a 2.0ghz AMD and has 1 Asus 4800se G4 AGP and when Motor flying 4 PCI graphic cards for the instrument panels.. All 8 Clients have AGP cards and are AMD 800 to 1.5ghz. My Ask21 Glider with 3 Asus 4800se G4 cards on the front 6 monitors, giving great downward landing view. Do you also fly the real thing? If you don't I'm certain it wouldn't take any time at all for you to learn with all the sim time I'm sure you have. Since you live in SC, do you know Bermuda High Soaring near Lancaster SC? There is an ASK21 there I believe. I fly some there myself but mostly just the 1-26's. |

None-sense.
Looks to me like the kind of person who is obsessed with aviation, yet is oblivious to the reality of it(IE: flying lessons, etc) Same thing goes for die-hard (video)wargamers that never played even so much as one match of paintball. In any case, for the price of that setup, I could very well buy myself a nice little plane kit(IE: a Piper Cub kit [good ones run well below $5000, although I havent checked lately]), or an assembled one for a litte more. Get a ton more enjoyment out of it, too! |

I'm not a real pilot, just a wanna be. [:D]
But I once taught a course with some guys from Flight Safety called Crew Resource Management. When I went to their offices, they let me fly a Flight Simulator. These are huge boxes on stilts with hydraulic motors to move the box around like a real airplane. You get inside and there is an actual cockpit from whatever plane it is simulating. The windows are computer screens just like the ones you showed. You can't tell that you aren't in a real airplane. Real pilots can qualify on a particular plane in one of these things. When you turn, the whole simulator leans over. Everything works just like a real one. I had a real pilot in the other seat and he helped me with managing the cockpit as it is a difficult job. But I flew it myself. I even landed it the first try. It was a little bumpy, but I got it down. I told him, "That was a pretty rough landing." He said, "Any landing that doesn't end up as a smoking hole in the runway is a good one." When I got through, I noticed that I was wringing wet with sweat. It was the most fun I ever had with my clothes on. |

Actually, that system will never be obsolete so long as it can continue to perform it's designed function. If it can simulate the performance of the aircraft it's simulating as is, newer hardware wouldn't do much for it. Depending on when and how he obtained the hardware, it may still have been significantly cheaper than the real deal. Plus, no fuel, no storage, no maintenance (well, a little), and no FAA (provided that applies to this type of aircraft). How many of you would love to have your own private indoor range? But really, AWESOME!!! |

Other helpfull accessories such as a basic set of guages ran about $1K, and a little engine (I think 4 cyl) ran in the area of 2500. (add the other crap for the engine, maybe another grand). I'm not all into building aircraft, I just remember getting that catalog for the hell of it, and thats where I get my info from. |
