I took the refund check from refinancing my [s]compound[/s] house [b]and [s]blew[/s] invested the whole thing in an ArmaLite AR-50![/b] I had to think hard but not real hard. This may be the ONLY opportunity I have ever had or will ever have to buy one, as they are probably going to be declared "assault weapons" this year.

The Caliban says I have to wait until Saturday, June 14 at 10:31 AM to pick it up. I plan to bring a friend 'cause the factory box resembles a water heater carton more than any firearm box I've ever seen. The rifle is almost 5 feet long.

I plan to make an adapter so it will fit on an MG-42 tripod as a machine rest. Got to get a nice scope too, but that will have to wait for a month or two. I have a mediocre one that will suffice for its inaugural firing.

Which one is not soon-to-be-banned in the PRK?

Would hate to get a nice rifle, then have it banned in a year!

.50bmg, you can't get normal capacity mags for the M1A anyway and the .50 pisses off those kalifornistan types more.

I think it would be worse to NOT get something you want and then have it banned in a year. If AB50 passes it will require present owners of 50 BMG rifles to register them as "assault weapons" just like they did with our existing AR-15s, etc.

It looks a lot more likely that the 50 BMGs will be banned though it could happen to the M1A at any time with a wave of damned, dirty ape AG Lockyer's filthy paw. I already have a small supply of standard-capacity M1A mags. OTOH the 50 would piss off the Caliban much more.

Get the 50! If anything this is the next rifle to be banned either locally or nationally. I figure the worst case is that it will have to be registered like a street sweeper. Get it while you can.

Another vote for the .50BMG.

The M1A is less than half the price (so you could work that in later) and doesn't have the "piss off a grabber today" appeal that the AR-50 or BFG-50 has. [:D]

BTW, I recently got a whopping $12 income tax refund from the Caliban. Any ideas where to spend it? [rolleyes]
