Can anyone here tell me how to put a set of columns in the middle of a document?

This might depend on your version of MS Works, but here is how it goes in MS Word XP:

Switch to print layout view.
Select the text you want to format in columns:
An entire document

On the Edit menu, click Select All.

Part of the document

Select the text.

Existing sections

Click in a section or select multiple sections.

On the Standard toolbar, click Columns .
Drag to select the number of columns you want.
