I posted the site update on the homepage as well as in the news forum... I also took the time to FINALLY put up a new "State of the Site" post in the news forum.


Here's the summary for what went in today:

- Equipment Exchange Ads from Dealers and Partners are now highlighted to stand out. We encourage everyone to support those companies who help keep the site running.

- Equipment Exchange Listings By State will now be possible. A new listing engine available to registered users (not available for GUESTS) will soon be linked to the HOMETOWN forums. You'll be able to click on a link and then see everything for that state from the past 30 days!

- New IM Engine! The IM tool was rebuilt in order to provide more flexibility as well as future enhancements. You can now store sent messages, easily manage your mailbox, and it all runs in it's own space, so it should be much faster to use!

As soon as the mods in the Hometown forums wake up, they should be placing the new STATE EE listings in their forums. (I put the NY one up now for anyone who wants to check it out.)

Basically, the link will do a custom search of the EE by the poster's state selection. This will [b]NOT[/b] work for lurkers. You have to be logged into the site to have access to the functionality. [=)]

Archive server may take a little longer than expected with the new architecture changes I have in mind. It should help improve performance on the searches, but means it will be part of the code upgrade.

The archive server is in, and the data is there, but there's a lot of work that has to take place. I can move forward with things the way they are, but that just means I would have to double the work by rewriting all of the code in a month or two...

I'll see how much time it will involve and decide then if it's worth it. Worst case, I can build the archive server engine first, then work on the rebuild of the forums. This should give us a few options and a few timelines to work with.
