I've ignored them before.
You're speaking of the American Community Survey. No one has ever been arrested or tried for not completing it. |
|
I've never participated but what's the big deal?
Will not comply just for the fun of it? |
|
Just mail the damn thing back, and they'll go away.
Precisely how much information you volunteer is up to you. Do you really think they give a shit if some of the lines are left blank? |
|
I'd fill it out in my secret handwritten language where the letters are all various doodles of penises.
|
|
Are they sending a form letter, or in person? I told them to leave me the fuck alone.
|
|
You're only required to fill in the household count information.
None of the other survey info. |

Where you work, (address), commute in miles, mental and physical health, etc. It also asks questions about taxes the government could easily find out themselves. It didn't make me paranoid, but I just felt no need to complete it. I'll wait for the regular census. |

I had the census guy come to my house 3 times.
The last time he demanded I fill it out or the town would lose $2000 per child in my household. I told him right to his face he was full of shit, called him a liar, told him I didn't care, and to get the fuck off my property. He didn't come back a forth time. I had the CDC bother me for a phone survey for months, sent me nasty letters. They eventually stopped too. I no longer participate in any of their propaganda bull shit. |
|
They kept showing up at my house, finally gave them their answers
|
|
Just put a random # where they ask how many live in the household. 100 is always a good one to confuse the shit out of them. Ignore everything else on the form.

My first form was used to light a fire in the wood stove still waiting for the second request.

Just save the Watchtower magazines that the Jehovah's Witnesses leave and meet them at the door with a pile of them. |

I did the census in 2010 when I was asked how I heated my home I put coal. The woman looked at me and said, 'So, you heat your home with oil then.' I argued with her that I in fact did not hear my home with oil and she insisted that I heated with oil because coal is not a valid source of heat. At that point I refused to participate in the census and I told her to leave my property. I won't be doing any more census surveys.

Is the American Community Survey Mandatory? Yes. The ACS is a mandatory survey. The ACS is a legitimate, mandatory survey sent to a small percentage of our population on a rotating basis. You are legally obligated to answer all the questions, as accurately as you can. The relevant laws are Title 18 U.S.C Section 3571 and Section 3559, which amends Title 13 U.S.C. Section 221. |

We never asked about home heating The decennial (mandated by our Founders) census is every 10 years. Legally the Census Bureau has the power to know how many people live in the house and one other thing; I think the ages of the people; nothing more needs to be provided. All the other surveys are optional. Perhaps it happened to be a non-mandatory survey that happened to be in 2010? |

Answer door naked.
With a slung AR, drop leg rig, and a bag of Cheetos. |

It's the ACS; they've been hounding me to fill it out for a month.
There is a fine of $100 for not filling-out the Census, but it is not clear that there is any type of penalty for not participating in the ACS. |

I honestly don't understand all the butthurt. Though we'd like them to spend less, the government is going to spend a bunch of our money one way or another and programs are going to be started and stopped based on demographics they have to work with. What's so wrong with giving them an accurate representation of who we are as a people?
And before you launch off into hyperbole and tinfoil based comments, I am not talking about questions that ask how many guns you have and where you keep them or what kind of porn you like. What's wrong with giving household income within a bracket? Monthly bill expenditures, etc.? Do you buy or rent? Who cares. |

My “name, sex, age, date of birth, race, ethnicity, telephone number, relationship and housing tenure” have absolutely nothing to do with apportioning direct taxes or determining the number of representatives in the House of Representatives. Therefore, neither Congress nor the Census Bureau have the constitutional authority to make that information request a component of the enumeration outlined in Article I, Section 2, Clause 3. In addition, I cannot be subject to a fine for basing my conduct on the Constitution because that document trumps laws passed by Congress. Interstate Commerce Commission v. Brimson, 154 U.S. 447, 479 (May 26, 1894) “Neither branch of the legislative department [House of Representatives or Senate], still less any merely administrative body [such as the Census Bureau], established by congress, possesses, or can be invested with, a general power of making inquiry into the private affairs of the citizen. Kilbourn v. Thompson, 103 U.S. 168, 190. We said in Boyd v. U.S., 116 U. S. 616, 630, 6 Sup. Ct. 524,?and it cannot be too often repeated,?that the principles that embody the essence of constitutional liberty and security forbid all invasions on the part of government and it’s employees of the sanctity of a man’s home and the privacies of his life. As said by Mr. Justice Field in Re Pacific Ry. Commission, 32 Fed. 241, 250, ‘of all the rights of the citizen, few are of greater importance or more essential to his peace and happiness than the right of personal security, and that involves, not merely protection of his person from assault, but exemption of his private affairs, books, and papers from inspection and scrutiny of others. Without the enjoyment of this right, all others would lose half their value.’” Note: This United States Supreme Court case has never been overturned. I enumerated as a summer job in 2000. Several good stories and $10/hr - I recommend it to college age kids and retirees. My favorite was a lady who told me "I ain't answering your questions and I ain't given the government my Social Security number." (I wasn't asking for it.)
But anyway: if you don't fill it out, it's no big deal... They'll just have someone guess at your answers for the regular census. For this survey, they'll just eventually give up. |
