How the hell did RDJ get away with playing a black guy and a bunch of black actors and other black organizations not lose their shit over it?
Hell, he was even nominated for an Academy Award for it! I'm surprised no one has brought that up this year with all the butthurt surrounding no black nominations. A black man couldn't get nominated this year, but they nominated a white guy a few years back for playing a black guy! Tropic Thunder is arguably Stiller's best film, and one of the biggest reasons for that was RDJ in blackface. |

I think he got away with it because he was playing an actor that, "Stayed in character until after the DVD commentary track was recorded..."
Ergo, bash him for playing a black man, you would be bashing Daniel Day Lewis and other method actors.... OR..... Either this, or nobody realized it was RDJ, and assumed it was a black man. OR... Tropic Thunder wasn't on the Academy Awards "FOr your consideration" viewing list. |
|
In the movie they had an actual black guy call out RDJ on it, so everything's ok. I think that's how it works.

Terrible movie. 1 or 2 funny lines can't save that abomination.

Tropic Thunder was an epic masterpiece. But even better than RDJ's performance was Tom Cruise's performance as Less Grossman. http://www.cinemablend.com/images/news_img/74407/tom_cruise_74407.jpg View Quote You know, it took me well into the scene where McConnaughey barges in on him before I realized it was Cruise. God, he was hilarious. |

This film proves Hollywood does not need real black actors anymore.

Just saw it for the first time a few nights ago. I had no idea what it was about, who was in it, yada yada. Just sat down and watched it. The whole time I was trying to figure out who played Lazarus

For me the question is how did they make a movie that I love with two actors (Ben Stiller and Jack Black) I fucking hate?

He actually does stay in character for the DVD commentary. It's one of my favourites.

C Thomas Howell got away with it in Soul Man. I don't think it was a big deal in either movie since they were tasteful performances.

Greatest plot ever. A white guy that is playing a black guy that is posing as a white guy playing a black guy.

Cruise was great.

I have it on DVD but the disc is scratched up. Is it available on Hulu of Netflix?
Been a few years since I've seen it. |
