"Who do they think they are? They have to open it up," Trump said. "I think security, overall, we have to open it up and we have to use our heads. We have to use common sense." I'm disappointed that Trump came out with this. Common sense says there's no point in breaking apple's encryption to read the second phone of a dead guy we already know everything about. Do they really think that the super secret stuff is on the one device he didn't destroy? So now Cruz has said Apple should access this one phone. Although his argument is better reasoned than Trump's, I still think it fails as a basic misunderstanding of what the Court has ordered Apple to do. The Court didn't order Apple to access the phone, they ordered Apple to create software that would bypass a critical security feature of this phone. Of course, that bypass could then be readily use don other phones and convince others who might not have otherwise put in the effort, that they should develop their own bypasses. Make no mistake, if Apple does this for the government, then at least one other group will develop a similar exploit of the security. Once it has been proven there really is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, people will get there. To those who have said this is just helping the FBI break into a safe, it's not. It's ordering Apple to develop a new cutting torch that can cut through their Mithril safe. At best it is a very expensive government taking of the private property Apple has developed. I have yet to see the order that says a man must bulldoze his own house for the government because hes the best bulldozer man in town. |

This has been one of the issues I've disagreed with him on for awhile. It's also one of the issues that might come before a SC judge and I want a strict originalist to rule on. |

Putting the word "Trump" in your thread title is like calling for indirect fire on your grid location. But instead of 155s you get an old lady purse fight. Maybe its more like calling for qrf. Oh well. In.

HE'S SAID IT A HUNDRED TIMES. HE WILL USE COMMON SENSE OVER CONSTITUTIONALITY.

Trump is saying what he feels the majority of people want to hear.
Who knew. |

I don't believe for one second that the FBI (or the NSA) can't get into that phone, they just don't want to reveal that they can...

This is where we are at people.
A fucking clown populist wanna-be strong-man vs two socialist geriatrics and a public that would elect President Camacho if he'll promise to pay their mortgage. |
|
No shit. He has repeatedly said he doesn't mind the govt spying on everyone so long as it is done correctly.
Said Rand Paul was an idiot for being outraged over the whole NSA stuff. |

One can only imagine what Trump would use the government for if he was POTUS.
"Don't sell my business that land. That's fine. Where's my eminent domain hammer?" "Megyn Kelly, her entire family, and all of her friends are getting audited by the IRS again this year? Shocking news but sounds terrific!" |

Just lost my vote.
Clinton tried this shit in the 90's with the Clipper Chip. Gave Zimmerman hell for creating and releasing PGP. Their end goal is to have law enforcement really not do any REAL investigative work but rather have giant database queries running that alert someone when it sees some pattern they have deemed anti-American. Fuck them. In between this and his statement that he will FORCE Apple to make their products here (totally unrealistic), he is really starting to come across as an idiot. He's gonna need all those "really smart people" if he gets into office. |

The "Terrorist Lives Matter" crowd is out in full force. So are people who don't understand how encryption works. hehe I just love these threads I can forgive Trump for not knowing anything about it. He's a real estate tycoon and reality show star, not an infosec professional. Fair enough. The thing is, he keeps saying that he doesn't have to know about everything (true). He says that he'll find "the best people, the very best" to advise him on things like this. Well...whoever he found to advise him on the finer points of secure, properly implemented encryption is a fucking retard. So strike two. |

It's fun watching y'all going back and forth, tearing into one another, same crap every election year, this place is like a bad tune stuck in your head, and the only way to get it out is with a bullet. |
|
I have a big problem with that. It's the same reason I don't support Patriot Act Cruz.
We're apparently never going to get a smaller government candidate to be the nominee, no matter what. I genuinely wish Rand could have gotten in. |
