The New York State Police have launched an investigation into alleged SAFE Act violations and appear to have possession or copies of 4473s showing who purchased firearms. Consider speaking with a lawyer if contacted.
http://nyfirearms.com/forums/firearms-news/100518-jackson-gun-ammo-deep.html Update post from the guy whose pump action gun the New York State Police demanded to see to determine if they could charge someone with a safe act violation after they got all the 4473 of a closed gun shop and combed through them fishing for safe act violations So 1 state cops have 4473s or access to the info 2 upstate cops are demanding to even see pump action guns like the crossfire as they cluelessly troll for safe act arrests 3 was not an " add on" or "illegal gun" |

In. I didn't think they were allowed to do that but I can't say I am really surprised. |
Maybe this will convince the holdouts that the form 4473 is a gun registry.
They will find out just how common it is for people to lose guns they once owned.
There was a lot of chatter this could happen in CT since 90% of gun owners
refused to register their AR's As far as I know it only happened to one person who was charged with a felony |

In before the "if you need to bury them, you need to dig them up" crowd from New York

Troopers better take a minute and think about this one.
Lots of anti SAFE sentiment across the state. They live amongst these communities, their children go to school in these communities Widespread JBT behavior could cause a real shitstorm. I better hurry up and schedule a teeth cleaning. |

That"s those extremely pro-2A, freedom loving LEOs I'm always hearing about on here.

Uhhh. The local mosque had a no-questions-asked firearms buyback program to promote peace. |

I know a few shops that sold piles, mountains even ,of lowers and completes, and still do. How much money is this project going to waste? |

Aimless, do you know if the state police are "fishing" and casting a wide net or are there specific targets and information they are using?

In. I didn't think they were allowed to do that but I can't say I am really surprised. I know a guy who works for a big gun store in Indiana. He said once a week a cute little female BATF agent stops by the shop and goes through the 4473's. She can't make photo copies but she can go through them and make notes in her notepad. |
Good thing over 90% of AR owners in NY threw their weapons away after the SAFE Act passed because it wasn't worth the hassle of owning one.
Are the FFL's obligated to hand over the 4473 info to the state?
I thought that info was for federal regulations. |
Relax, not going to be any widespread blanket sweeps. Must be in rgerads to a particular investigation. FWIW there is no such thing as a "SafeAct" investigation. Probably somebody screwed up irrespective of the SafeAct or got dimed by his ex.
4473s are a loosely coupled distributed database with a 20 year retention period. Disaster recovery plan (disaster being FFL retirement or other exit from the business) is to ship the 4473s offsite to the ATF managed data repository.
ATF agents are bots with read only access. |
