Saw this at Big 3 East last week.

Here's a nice write up by Tim Yan on the new Hi-Lux 1-8x

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/10/08/hi-lux-cmr8-1-8x26mm-tactical-scope-preview/

note how frakken short it is

Very interesting. That is short as shit. 34mm tube.

Thanks OP.

30% cheaper, 25% lighter, and 10% shorter than PA's new 1-8x.

You have my attention.

Very interesting.  I'm looking for the perfect scope for a 12.5" Grendel, this might be it.

I have no experience with that manufacturer.  Are they a decent quality scope?

I have one of their Leatherwood CMRs... It's a keeper. If this 1-8 is as good I could be in the market for one.

Same here. I like their 2x7 Scout scope. I have one on my M1A Scout.

This new one has me intrigued. Been looking to scope one of my ARs.

How good are they?

Before they released the CMR 1-4x it underwent endurance testing on PKMs, AKs and SVDs.
This included 200 round bursts of 7.62x54R. The European military unit which performed the testing
gave them very high marks with zero issues encountered.

When they brought out their Micro B-Dot red dot sight they sent some off to Alexander Arms
for endurance testing. They were baked and frozen and shot on .338 Lapua semi-autos and
performed without issue.

I have been very impressed with Hi-Lux. They have tried very hard to put out a quality product
and a great price. They made a name for themselves with the CMR 1-4x and followed it up with
their B-Dot red dot sight. This 1-8x could really be something.......

Their target price is LESS than $899

Here's a review of the Hi-Lux Micro B-Dot red dot sight to give you guys an idea on Hi-Lux quality
and the endurance testing Alexander Arms did independently

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/04/21/hi-lux-optics-micromax-b-dot-mini-red-dot-sight/

Here two are mounted on an AA semi-auto .338 Lapua

they survived temps which killed a T-1 during testing

For about $200 more I think I would stick to all Japanese at minimum.

good question!

a 6-24x scope has a very old school 4 fold magnification increase
6x4=24

A 1-8x has a 8 fold magnification increase......or twice as much.
This is A LOT and requires a great deal of design work, head scratching
additional lenses, more head scratching.....and more design work.

Basically there is a lot more going on inside a 1-8x than a 6-24x

Normally I would avoid Chinese optics but Hi-Lux has proven to be the exception to the rule.
They really are trying to put out good stuff and it shows.

Yes and if it's anything like their "micro" it'll have something stupid (like a non changeable auto power off) which makes the scope useless and they may or may not fix it with a later revision

Same reason shitty (by 2015 standards)millet DMS scopes went for 350 bucks when they first came out. the first guys to tool up gets the cream, and by the time the tech catches up across the market they have made a good chunk of money and can afford to lower prices to compete and bring out the next thingymajig. And I want to help them bring out that next thingy.

by 2018 8x scopes will be a thing of the past a 100x zoom no eye relief HUD digital optics will be the in thing.

dont get me wrong this is the bees knees, just saying.

Hmmm, customers said they didn't like the auto-off battery saver feature on the B-Dot and they eliminated it on their second production
run. Pretty common knowledge. Seemed like they listened to what their customers wanted......

What are we, made out of money?

I spent $400 on my Ptac, that only leaves me with $37 for optics.

24/6 = 4.  8/1 = 8.

It wasn't all that long ago that any optic with a magnification range of more than 3x was much more expensive and it's only recently that 8x is even available.

Lots of things are made extremely well in China.  Unfortunately, once production starts to ramp up to meet demand (based on first units) quality often  begins to ramp down.
