Israeli trade-in CZ-75 can't be beat for $300 or CZ-83 for ~$230.
I'd save up a few more clams and get a CZ P07, if you can't find one for the old price of ~$370. |

Obvious answer in that price range is the Ruger P Series, hold out for a P95, the best of them. Pawn shops here have plenty of them for $250 in excellent used condition.

For dedicated house guns, why would you buy handguns? Get a couple of cheap riot guns. I have several handguns, but use an AR for home defense.
