New season of "Ice Road Truckers". That show has ran it's course and then some. "Power and Ice" is their latest attempt. It follows 2 or 3 different electrical contractors around who work on power transmission maintenance in Alaska. The first episode was a drama rich soap opera. The whole season looks to be a real let down.
"The Curse of Oak Island", find something already!!!!!!!!! |

The previews of power and ice should have clued you in, not to tune in. I hoped the whole hour sucked horribly for you for watching that crap

The only 2 channels worth having cable/satellite for are TCM and AMC.

Put your TV on the science channel and leave it there. "How it's Made" is pretty cool! When we had Direct, that was my go-to show for 'falling asleep' Love it, they probably make an episode on a $50 budget. |

Who does all the "Tough Alaska" shows? Is it THC or Discovery?
Those people start off every fucking sentence by reminding us how tough you have to be to live there. I'm sure it's not always easy, but jeez. |

They picked up a pole with a boom truck to set it. The rigging was all wrong and fastened in the wrong place. They didn't use a tag line, so the ground man is standing right underneath this floundering, out of control load, bitching at the operator for his stupidity. Crap I'd get sent home for, these stooges are doing for an audience! |

TV is no longer good for anything but cheap mind bumming entertainment. I miss the days of factual information on "History Channel" and "The Learning Channel". Now it's reality TV about so called surviving in Alaska when they can run down to the grocery store if their fish wheel doesn't do well that year, or gay incestous brothers renovating and flipping properties.

"History" Channel was dead to me once they killed "Dogfights." That show had so MUCH potential.

I like to see what people bring in and some of the history behind it. It'd be much better if they toned down the drama a tad and got rid of that useless waste of space they call "chumlee" |

I have canceled my commercial television service and now rely on You Tube, Netflix and the ARFCOM for all of my entertainment value.

disconnect your tv from cable and dish and connect it to the net.

No, you didn't. I stopped watching the History channel around 2008-2009 and dropped cable soon after. Youtube is now my primary source for documentaries. |

I ditched cable TV don't miss it. You can "How it's Made" till your sick of it on Youtube. Tons of Discovery and History documentary's on there as well. |

I have the history channel on roku, all the old programs that were actually about history
|

Well, channels have to make money. They weren't making any off the All Hitler Channel. They brought on a gal from A&E (I think) and she did the channel shift to more reality TV because that's the way our society was going. I read about that in the Pawn Stars book.

I like American Pickers and The Curse of Oak Island. History channel isn't all that bad.

There is no music on mtv and no history on the history channel.

They put on what is popular and sells advertisements.
And let's not pretend that TV is the only place it is happening. We have a history forum here that is not well-trafficked..... |

I remember when the History Channel was the best channel on TV. That was 15 years ago....

Give it enough time and the number one show on History channel will be "OW, my balls!"

The oldie-moldys didn't call it the boob tube without good reason. It took me 20 years for it to really sink in but when it finally did I dropped cable and TV in general. It really is a worthless place to spend your time, although the wife unit says she still misses it. She loved some mind numbing screen time. Too bad so sad.

History should start remaking a bunch of documentaries in 1080p.
I still find episodes of cool History Channel shows on YouTube from time to time that are still in 3:2 aspect ratios that look like shit. |

Smithsonian Channel does history shows, History Channel does not.

Oh, well. They haven't screwed up "Vikings" -- yet. Pissed me off when they killed off Athelstan. But Floki is going to pay, because Ragnar "is a patient man". And there's still http://www.telefilm-central.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Vikings-Katheryn-Winnick-Lagertha-Images.jpg View Quote One tiny beacon of light in an otherwise sea of shit. I'm not going to sit through 12 hours of Pawn Stars, and American Pickers for 1 hour of Vikings. I'll wait for the DVD release... |

I can't stand most of the reality TV shows because they are always so over-dramatized, and I have never really watched Ice Road Truckers more than a few seconds before moving on with the remote control.
Ancient Aliens reminds me of the movie "Plan 9 from Outer Space" in that it's only entertaining at all because it's so incredibly bad. When I grow up I want to be an Ancient Alien Theorist so I can sit around on my ass and dream up ways to give credit to every detail of human ingenuity and progress to alien technology. |
