Rest of story at link. Incredible story...
The gunman was killed and the other three clowns plea bargained to 15 years in prison and eligible for parole in 7.5 ----------- http://www.pe.com/articles/pesquera-778294-garcia-officer.html Marcus Pesquera said he has been shooting Glock pistols in competition since he was old enough to hold one, starting around age 11. Pesquera instinctively knew by the weight of his service-issued Glock when to reload and how to hit his target But to others, what was remarkable was how Pesquera, now 23, at the time just 45 days out of the police academy, quickly gathered his wits. Pesquera used his car and its tires as cover in a gun battle that lasted about two minutes. In the darkness, Pesquera aimed for the laser light on Alvarado’s AK-47. Pesquera had the wherewithal to turn off the light on his gun and use its night sight to see his attacker. |

Glock against AK, and he came out on top... Nice shooting. I thought there was no way to win if your opponent had a rifle and you had a handgun? Good job the the officer. According to GD you don't, and should put down your weapon and curl up in the fetal position. |

I am really hoping that Ayoob does a piece on this in AH someday soon.

It's not the dog in the fight, it's the fight in the dog. Good job officer.

Something something you'll never rise to the occasion..
Good for him. |

Glad both officers are getting better, and a great job by the rookie...

Ayoob can somehow talk about when he was a "young maverick officer" (referring to his days in a tiny little New Hampshire town with virtually no serious crime, where he was a RESERVE officer, but makes it sound like he did 30 years of full time police work) Then Ayoob will continue with more self promotion BS and drama. Yep, really looking forward to that. |

I'm sure they're all scum but it's tough to get a conviction I imagine. |

Rich Lawhead said, “even a veteran officer would have been shaking in his boots. ... A veteran of seven, 10 years on the street sometimes would not have responded as quickly.” From how the article puts it, competing in shooting sports at a young age keeps you from curling up in a fetal position or shaking in their boots. |

Any videos of this encounter?

One of the many reasons why visible lasers are not the best thing to use.
Good shooting on the officer's part. |

First off, the car tires are concealment not cover. Gunlights aren't meant to be left on all the time. Night sights don't illuminate an attacker. That story sucks on almost every level.
Glad the cop came out on top in such a lopsided fight! |

Suppose to an AK one rim might not be the best but 2 rims, axle, frame, engine parts ect are. I think some people think tire and think it's a guy hiding behind a solitary tire/rim and forget that the entire car is in between them as well. Of course if the bad guy goes all fucking urban prone then game over man, game over... |

We shot from inside through the windshield and used various rounds to defeat the door panels/tires. The tires/rims were not easily penetrated. |

Jonathan Contreras, 20; Orlando Cruz, 24; and Gonzalo Medina, 22, all of San Bernardino, who were with Alvarado, were charged with two counts each of attempted murder on a peace officer and one count each of possession of an assault rifle. Their bail was set at $1 million each. The three men have pleaded not guilty to all charges. They remain in jail and are due back in court Friday for a hearing. District Attorney Mike Ramos has acknowledged that the three men did not fire any weapons but said they are culpable because they knew Alvarado had an assault rifle.
