Moving stuff around in the garage and the deck dropped on my toe... hurt like hell of course, swollen, tender and hard to walk on. That was Sunday afternoon. Now it is not so hard to walk on but it looks worse.

What am I in for here??

I would be more  concerned about those red herpes bumps on your foot.

Not sure about the nail but as far as using a push mower,...... you're doing it wrong.

Might keep it. You may want to put a hole in it though.

Yep

If the pressure gets real bad, heat up a thin gauge wire and burn a hole through the nail

When I was a kid I slammed my thumb in a car door. The nail looked like that for a while, then fell off, then regrew perfectly normal.

Yep, you can kiss that nail goodbye. If you can reach it. But then you'll get a brand spanking new one.

I had to have a hole punched in my nail when my toe looked like that (dropped an FJ60 leaf spring on it).

GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY THAT FUCKING SOUNDS HORRIBLE AND I CRINGED READING IT FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU...........

But yeah, you're going to be saying goodbye to that toenail.  I'd keep it wrapped to reduce snagging on footwear.  Of course you could always go the open toe route but then you risk whacking it on something....

Fuck this I'm out, the cringe factor in this thread is too high

Yes.
Many years ago as a teenager working on a friends bicycle I dropped a heavy tool on my barefoot big toe.
It was bad and hurt like hell but it did not look as bad as yours.
But I did lose the nail.
And so will you.

You Georgia boys always do it wrong. Just because my sister said she wanted a size 10, does not mean your suppose to rub your foot on it.

if it does, it cant hurt the looks of your foot at all

Do not burn a hole in it. I am sure plenty of people here will tell you it is ok but the nail pad under the nail is very thin and you will be opening a way to infection. If you loose the nail it will probably grow back.
OP, trust me, you do not want want an infection in the nail bed. I damaged my left big toe a few weeks ago and when I was stitched up at the local ER I got staph infection and have been fighting it for over 3 weeks.

When it falls off, put it in a little plastic baggie and keep it safe in a drawer.  That way you won't lose it.

Mower dropped on toe
the nail bed is bluish black.
it will grow back soon

at this point leave it alone.
You can soak your foot for a few days. That might help the pain. If you chipped part of the bone there isn't a whole lot that can be done.
You will lose the nail.
It will not grow anymore. It will be cold and have no feeling. You will feel pressure when you push on it.
In about 6-8 weeks it will come off on it's on. Don't pull on it when it starts getting loose. You will sort of know when the time is right because it just barely be attached.
A new nail will be growing up under it.
It will be weird. Eventually the new nail should grow the length of your old nail. It may look a little mashed, but it is your foot.
or maybe you'll get Ebola.

Head down to your local welding supply outfit and pic up a Tip Drill Cleaner.

The real question is what happened to the toe next to your big toe that make it longer than your big toe?

It looks like it will probably fall off.
If it does or is in the process soak it in warm water with Epsom salts and it will be a better process.

Actually, the "drilling a hole to relieve the pressure" is what you are supposed to do asap so that you *don't* lose the nail.

You were already fucked.

In one one of the "6 month watch my toenail regrow" thread.

Who cares. I went "Ronnie Lott" on one of my big toenails years ago. Had the podiatrist permanently nuke it from orbit so it would never grow back, because it kept getting in-grown and being a pain in my ass. Or foot, rather. You won't miss it.
