I just got my stamp for my .308 SBR. 12.5" bbl. I put the stock on it last night and it feels bad as a mother fucker.

However, I can't help but think I'm going to set the range on fire and blow out windows a mile away when I take it to the range to shoot it for the first time.

Tell me everything is going to be ok. I've never had a gun I was this concerned about shooting before. Even a .44 magnum handgun.

Edit: Since we're talking home builds, yes, my home built ar's made me nervous the first mag. That's the case when you've got an explosion taking place inches from your face.

I hated shooting my 300 mag. Sold it not long after buying it.

HK91 with the tele stock. Looked awsome but

to shoot.

First time I touched off my .300WBY. Flinched like a mother. Ended up selling it. Man has to know his limitations. If I can't kill it with a .257WBY or a .30-06, I'll bow out.

I do not like to shoot guns cause they can get dirty and might scratch the inside of the barrel.

It is just a .308, a semi-auto one at that. You have nothing to fear. Seriously.

Now my most painful experience shooting would probably be when I sighted in my Browning X-Bolt in .375 H&H magnum. The guys who mounted/boresighted the scope didn't tighten the rings all the way and I didn't bother checking. So after about 30 frustrating rounds of a zero that wouldn't quite hold I figured out the problem, tightened everything down and had to restart the zeroing process. About 60 rounds of .375 later in a t-shirt I was pretty well brutalized.

My friend the .475 Wildey Magnum. Not afraid to shoot it, it's tons of fun, but in moderation. The grip is such that one corner hits directly on the knuckle of my thumb. After a dozen or so rounds I've had enough, that shit HURTS.

Years ago I had an Ithica 12 gauge single shot with a 36 inch barrel. Shot 2 slugs through it, almost broke my shoulder. sold it for $90 and never regretted it.

I have a few 5.56 SBRs that I elect not to shoot when I know I'll be shooting indoors or in a booth. Those things are tooth rattling headaches in a bag in close quarters.

I also have a few long out of production "collection" guns that I choose not to shoot out of fear something important on them will break and I will be SOL trying to find replacement parts.

I wouldn't say afraid but I do know every time I pull the trigger on a .44 Mag round in my S&W 329PD that it is going to hurt.

I knew the gun was stupid when I purchased it but the deal I got was just too good to pass up. At least .44 Special isn't too bad in it.

Have a shotgun that previous tenants in one of the apartments I managed left. Said to keep or throw away what they left.

Smithfield(?) brand 12 gauge. When I looked up the brand there were reports of them blowing up.

Rented a Ruger Alaskan 454 casual (w/ 2.5" barrel) once at the range. That beast is a wrist breaker. It took a few minutes too to get through the box of ammo we bought for it.

Nice gun though, shot pretty good but it helped me to decide that I didn't want to buy one...

I have a Nagant that scares the hell out of me. Someone did a trigger job on it or something. I'd estimate the trigger pull to be about a half pound.

I have done the drop test on it and it only went off one time out of 25 drops. But even that is enough to know that the rifle may ONLY be loaded on the bench. It is not a rifle for loading and carrying around.
When at the range, I load it, and don't dare get near the trigger. Get all set. Frequently it goes off just when I touch the trigger. So I'm not expecting it.

Of all the Nagants I have owned, it is the most accurate.

The trigger is so clean and light, it is not part of the equation. But it is scary.

ever since people became obsessed with "tactical", they have been buying a lot of really weird and unpleasant guns

if you buy a lightweight 44 mag with a 3" barrel, that gun will be basically a real bad ass piece of useless shit that you will hate shooting

if you buy the full size version with a 6" barrel, you will enjoy shooting it

but everyone wants to buy the piece of shit version now because they're elite

personally, I hate shooting a gun with a lot of painful recoil, and muzzle blast and flash. if I cannot shoot a gun well, it's boring to me

OP, my friend let me shoot his Fleming HK 51 K.

It would have a RING of fire about 2 feet from the muzzle.
In full auto, the ring would pulse back and forth.

It looked like a Sci Fi raygun.
Nothing to worry about. It was passably controllable

Oh and I didn't have a lot of love for my .44 mag deer pistol.

Also a WW1 era surplus gun that had bonus parts fall off one day. After 3 complete tear downs I still can't find where they came from...

I know I can handle the recoil but I've watched too many of those youtube videos of idiots loosing control of them

Side note: I won't touch a single shot 12 ga or a large caliber revolver. I'm not scared of them but I dislike the recoil

My Remington 770 in 7mm Remington Magnum can be unpleasant to shoot. Not only is it about half the weight of a true Remington 700, the 7mm really kicks. I've scoped myself with it at least a dozen times (never hard enough to leave a mark, but it sure stings).

Of course, when I hold it right and pay attention, it's fine...but it has no tolerance for apathy or rushed shots.

Shot a 416 Rigby once. it was not my rifle, and I was very apprehensive prior to shooting it.

two rounds was enough.

I shot it ok, but it is not a range toy.

I have a Model 70 Featherweight in 375 H&H. I weigh 150lbs, I have never fired it and my shoulder starts to hurt when I look at it.

One of those air light .44 mag stubby smiths

When I worked at a shop it came back 3 or 4 times due to owners firing it a few times and never wanting to again.

One guy dislocated his thumb.

I shot it a few times and it was fucking awful

My PGO 870 with a 14" barrel made me a little nervous when I first tried buckshot out of it. If you empty the gun quickly it makes your hand a little numb. Same with high brass birdshot.

An old Beretta M1935 (.32ACP). I had no idea if the thing even worked, or if it had been fired since WWII. The thing functioned flawlessly.

Also, my first (and only, so far) home-built AR. Standard M4 configuration, but I assembled the entire thing myself (cranked on the barrel, pinned the gas tube, everything.) I expected it to blow up in my face when I shot it. No problems my firs 50 rounds, then it started to FTE, which could have been a wrong lube/wrong buffer problem. Haven't fired it since I fixed the issues. Still scared, though.

I've had the thing for years knowing it's a peice-o-shit, but would shoot it from time to time just because. Last time I shot it, it started double-tapping about once per mag. Haven't shot it since, and don't feel right about selling it.

Never been scared to shoot one other than my first .50 bmg, but I make double extra sure my ear pro is on when shooting these two:

I have one other with an SJC Titan brake that is pretty bad too.

I have a Serbu Super Shorty that is one of those one of a kind examples because it has the 3-1/2 chamber.

I put a super magnum T shot field load in it and shook like a queer eating a hotdog before I fired it.

A two foot long ball of flame shot out to the tune of a range stopping boom. I was afraid of that. Now I just stick to a maximum of slugs and buckshot.

Only your ears need to be afraid. You're gonna want to double your earpro with that.

Fired my SCAR 308 with the stock PWS brake in small enclosed area (outdoor overhang, divided stations only about 4' width). Fuck that hurt my ears with only electronic muffs. After one shot I was looking for foamies in my range bag - out. Nearby folks didn't have any. Third shot I flinched so bad I'm surprised I hit paper, actually hit what I was aiming at. Fortunately I had some hand sanitizer to clean up some scuzzy foamies off the ground.
