I didn't know Seabees had balls. You bet they do. I served in the Marine Corps and have the highest regards for the SeaBees. For example, this morning I took my Uncle out to breakfast. He is in his 90s and was in the first wave that landed on Iwo Jima. After 12 days of slugging it out for control of the airfields he took a round. He was evacuated to another island where he and about 30 other marines were parked in a tent in the jungle. The U.S. Army ran the hospital. He and his other "tent mates" did not see a doctor or receive medical attention for two weeks. They were left to fend for themselves; some died. A couple of Seabees came upon them and could not believe what they saw. They went back to their detachment and rounded up help and trucks. When the SeaBees were loading the Marines in the trucks for transport back to their support ship the Army doctor who was a Major tried to stop them. The Seabees gave the Major the option of letting them pass or die. My uncle went on to fight in Korea and Vietnam before retiring He alway speaks highly of Seabees. In all fairness to the Army medical resources were stressed past their limits with the fighting on Iwo Jima. My uncle feels he owes his life to those Seabees for their actions and the resolve to carry it through. |

My band took a trip with MWR & hit up a few naval bases a couple yrs ago. I hung out with a few Seabees at a small naval base Crete (the one that has cats roaming everywhere). They threw a killer BBQ, made some outstanding drinks, & played a little Seabee cornhole. They were all 40+, great bunch a guys. Edit: good looking couple! |
