Just got my a Diplomat jacket to updress from my Alpha.
This is nice stuff. Warm but I don't look like a fat fuck Eskimo. It's nice to move around without a bulky jacket hanging up on stuff. Also the freedom Of range of movement is great. If anything, it's worth it for the full range of movement alone. I can put my hands up like a Missourian, and not have the jacket ride up. Who else is down with dead bird?

I love the stuff.
ITS Tactical did a good review on it and why it's so expensive. Basically they build stuff that will last you literally a life time of hard use and they don't see a lot of stuff come back for warranty or repair. When they do see it come back they can almost always just repair it and don't have to completely replace it. So, what you're getting is high quality QC'd materials and worksmanship. With Arc'teryx you know that it's designed for athletic use, but that it's built to what I call "summit Everest" standards. I've purchased less expensive items and have had blown out zippers and pockets that ended up with holes in them from just tossing in my keys. With my Arc'teryx stuff I feel like zombie apocalypse could get five years in and I'd still be looking good. |

I do like the high end outerwear but Backcountry used to brand shells and jackets that were every bit as well made at half the price (or less if you caught a Steep and Cheap deal.) I have had a few that are still going strong after a decade. I suspect they might be made by one of the large manufacturers a'la Kirkland.

My first Arc product is my last arc product. I bought one of those BACs a while back and that bitch stretched out within a month of use and the color didn't survive the first major sweat I put in it.

i think my favorite thing about them is the fit. someone put a lot of thought into how their products mold to the human form. most of their stuff feels tailored right off the rack and has an excellent slim, athletic cut.

That is my main gripe with them. Living in upstate NY I can have -20 temps in the morning with 20 degree temps by lunch and 50 degree temps the next day. Therefore I like to layer. I start with a high quality Goretex shell and go from there. These tight fitting coats don't leave room for thermals, shirt and fleece. And yes before anyone asks I have tried on their gear. Fwiw my favorite shell is from EMS and is about ten years old. $200. |

A lot of that Arcteryx stuff is copied from the Condor brand. You can look at the Condor and Arcteryx together and see it a copy.

Perhaps their outerwear is the shit... I have one jacket and nothing but good things to say about it.
Their fleece 1/4 zips I have no faith in. While comfy, they certainly do not last... the material wears thin and holes developed way quicker than any other clothing I've ever owned. |

I have 3 jackets a few sweaters and 3 pairs of pants. The fit, the materials, the workmanship, all adds up to something so superior it's hard to compare it to anything else. I still need a few more jackets to round out my collection.

I have a arc 1/4 zip sweater of some sort - has little ridges like small corduroy, maybe it's fleece I don't know My uncle gave it to me several yrs ago and I had put it in the closet and forgot about it. Anyway, found it this yr and really did not know it was a cool kid garment - found out when I wondered who made it since it was warm and felt unusually thick and plush without being bulky. Seems like quality from my limited sample size of one. |

The Atom is the best jacket I own . . .
Keeps you warm down to 35-40* with just it and a T-shirt in addition to the "Slim fit, lightweight"/mall ninja type stuff. |
