I have a "Hisense" (a chinese domestic brand) TV. 50 inches, got it for 450 at costco.
The sound is OK, in some ways better than my stereo setup in a noisy environment. The screen is BRIGHT like, the pictures is vivid like an old 80s soap opera. (You remember they used videotape not film for those, so they looked different on TV, the video quality on this thing is just like that difference.)
It's not a bad TV for what I paid for it, and I got used to the screen color so don't notice it much anymore.
The trick to a cheap TV is look for the inputs and outputs you need, and DO NOT get a Smart TV unless you are planning on using the hell out of one of those services. I NEVER used what was on my old dead Sony Smart TV. Use a computer for that, or could get a FireStick if I wanted it.
I say go for it.
ONLY ONE drawback, is you don't see display models often and you really should look at the screen to see if you can tolerate it.
