The Russians can't afford studies because they spend all their money on rockets. Gotta help 'em out.

The FSA are wanting to know how long they can lay in a bed without getting up.

We are. The next major long term mission will involve a manned flight to an asteroid.  A friend of mine is one of the six astronauts training for it right now.

Paralyzed from the neck down for 4 months+ in 2012.

Re-learning to crawl and eventually walk was a bitch. Hardest thing I've ever done.

And my bills from Rush and Mayo were a lot more than $18,000.

Muscular atrophy is a frightening thing.

My experience was no where's near as bad as yours but, after having my cast on my leg for almost 3 months and not being able to walk with out crutches sucked when I had my cast removed. I had to learn how to walk correctly again and also how to run again. Getting flexibility back was very painful and it took a little while to get 100% control of my calve and feet muscles again.

I wouldn't do that for 180,000.  It would take months of physical therapy and exercise just to walk again to say nothing of sores and any other complications. And that's not even counting basically destroying your social and family life.

Seems like a perfect job for one of those horribly obese people who never get out of bed anyway.

No way. I spent about 38 days with my left leg immobilized after an accident. Went from the bed to the bathroom to the couch and no where else. The was no internet
at the time. My left leg shrank up big time and I nearly lost my mind.

That's only $10.71 per hour. I'll pass.

We can round up to 10.72. I'll pass also.

Ahhhh, that's the point.

didn't a university do a 30 or 60 day study back in the 60's maybe 70's?

They could get up and walk to the bathroom and to the shower.

They then continued follow up on the people over the years. The long term effects on their bodies was devastating.

Fuck that!!!!!!

Application sent, they just might want a paraplegic double amputee to study the effects of bedrest on..

The money making part of that is not in the salary, it is in the made for TV about every single porn video on RedTube.

I spent 3 days last week with a jacked ankle.  Today I am bed with food poisoning.  Frankly, I am already sick of it.

The last time I was sick for four days, I wanted the fuck out of bed NOW after day one, I just couldn't stay up for very long.

70 days, no way I could do it.  I can't stand being off work for more than a week, let alone confined to a bed.

Reading that Vice article, the dude did 3 weeks of testing blahblahblah prior to starting his 70 days, so that may bring down the pay per hour considerably if not compensated for that as well...

A buddy of mine was contemplating this and after I told him the hourly rate, he wised up.

The $18,000 compensation breaks down as follows: $1,200 per week for a total of 15 weeks. While the bed rest component of the study is 70 days, NASA requires subjects for pre-testing and post-testing, which brings the entire duration that the test subjects are required at the test facility in Texas to 15 weeks.

$7.14 hr

I'd consider it for a tax free $100k, but nothing less.  It's not only the physical maladies that could develop, but also the fact that you're literally giving up 70 priceless days of your life to sit in a bed and have observations made about you.  There's probably stuff hooked up to you at all times, camera on you to observe your condition, etc.  Shit and piss in a pan, tricky showers, no sex.

For less than $7.50 an hour when all is said and done apparently.  Fuck that.

I woud , it seems 70 days of no work for a machinegun would suit my wants but I don't believe I could take so many days off of work without repocusions. I'll keep my job.

Would be nice to fix some of the roads around her with some of that money. Kills me that with

Awesome you found my BIL a job!! I'll drive him over and then make sure I change my phone number. The only thing that could go wrong is they may not be able to get him out of their basement when the experiment is over.

Well that's their problem. Thanks again.

NASA's budget is jack shit cutting them off would accomplish nothing. Its budget is less then half of a percent of the government budget. The entire budget of NASA for the entire time it has existed is less then the government spent on the bank bailout in 2008. We should be increasing their budget not cutting it.

I'm sure it will advance science in some way.  It's better than Muslum relations building.
