I'm looking for something sporty with good gas mileage (30ish mpg). I haven't paid attention to cars in twenty years (two marriages and a kid), so I am looking for ideas.
I'm 6'2", 190lbs, drive about fifteen miles one way to work. I'm liking the 2012 Honda Civic coupe, but I decided to throw this into GD and see what ideas (and yuks) pop up. UPDATE: I found a NEW 2015 Honda Civic Coupe LX with a manual transmission for $17K. I drove the Fusion, Versa and Corolla. They were nice, but the Civic was a much more responsive drive. The actual car I will be buying is at a different dealer and I will pick it up tomorrow. Evidently the manual transmission models are hard to find. I drove an EX manual and was delighted with it. Unfortunately, the EX model has a sun roof and it was a bit of a squeeze for me. I sat in a automatic LX and had plenty of room. Scrape together another 4 grand and you can get a 2000 Tacoma with a new frame.

2011ish Acura TL. I have one and it is sporty yet roomy (6'5"). Might be a little more than your budget, but not by much.

Car? Bleh...
For that money get a nice used Toyota 4runner. I paid $12k for mine and it has been perfect. |

got any leads on some killer deals for one? looking primarily for one with character, you know, an older model one with lots of miles on it around for about what I could get a brand new one for. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

I'm getting there with my 14 year old vehicle approaching 200k miles. I need awd for the next vehicle though due to the climate here in Crapetticut. I have been looking at slightly used Toyota Rav4's with like 10 to 20k miles at most for that price range.

Never mind the silly fuel efficient Civic's and Camry's, or the gas guzzling F-150's to go to and from work in.
Drive to work with some style, go Magnum style and you might only have to stretch your budget a tad. http://cars.oodle.com/detail/1980-ferrari-308/3829283306-berlin-ct/?cm_mmc=OODLE_PREVIEW-_-www-_-NA-_-NA |

If you want a less expensive option, there is the 2005-2006 toyota Corolla XRS. |

I'm pretty sure that's the base price for a rebuilt "bobbed" deuce-and-a-half with the multi-fuel engine.
I'd drive one of those to work. |

Ford Fusion, should be plenty of selection in that price range. We have a V6 with auto transmission, it isn't a sports car, but it drives well enough. It has been absolutely reliable. A Camry or Accord is always a good suggestion, but they tend to hold their value better (which is great if you are buying new, it sort of sucks if buying used), and the Fusion is just as reliable in my experience.

My previous truck was on fire when I drove it to the salvage yard (little bit of oil dripping on the exhaust manifold from a hole in the block.) |

Twin turbo inline 6 goodness. Just make sure the HPFP has been changed and no wastegate rattle. |

GTI.
Drive one, find one that has been well maintained, with the ea888 motor. Add software and enjoy. |

You couldn't go wrong with a Honda Civic. It'll run for decades if you take care of it, and 30MPG would be easy for that car to beat.
Honda is GTG. That or a Fusion Platinum. Nice whizbang tech in a very nice looking car. |

You could get a new honda fit for around that price point, xlnt fuel economy in a fun / versatile package........especially if you get the manual transmission.
