We have a contractor in NOLA that usually sends us one. Delicious.

Participated in the consumption of one from Rouse's this past weekend.
Yum. Don't choke on the baby. |

Every few years I will pick up one of those. I'm sure our local versions aren't as good as the original though.

This is probably is as large of a kingcake you can buy. Usually the ones we get in the office are about 2/3 the size. http://media.columbian.com/img/photos/2011/02/25/20110225-145716-pic-879715902.jpg View Quote That place ships. We've ordered from them to us in AL before. Great cakes. The Chocolate and peanut butter is amazing. |

Dang I have never seen one of those befor. Is it like a giant donut? So is it a LA thing? I may need to order one for the family.

I had a piece once at an ex's college dorm, was like wtf when I bit down on a baby. I had never heard of this.
I think they were pissed they wasted the baby on me.

Pretty much anywhere Mardi Gras is celebrated, I would imagine. They're more like a cinnamon roll on the inside, but they can have filling in them, too. |

It's more like a giant cinnamon roll covered in icing but there are a lot of different bakers that make their version and all are a little bit different.
These guys make my favorite version: https://www.randazzokingcake.com/categories/King-Cakes and https://www.kingcakes.com/ http://www.gambinos.com/shop/king-cake/traditional.aspx |

If it tastes half as good as it looks, I'll be a repeat customer. |

One of my development teams added a feature into our mobile app that during Mardi Gras if you shook your phone King Cake Babies would dance on the screen. We had some people who aren't familiar with these babies and thought it was creepy so we cut it out.

Get that disgusting nasty white crap off that cake. Apricot glaze and the colored sugar only.
Pecan praline & cream cheese ftw! |

Randazzos is my favorite, but difficult to get over there when the line isn't out of the door. So, on Friday, I picked up a Caluda King Cake from Coffee Cottage Catering in Elmwood, and it was amazing. There were only 3 cakes left as it was nearly 4 pm and luckily they had 1 "flavor of the week" left, which is what I wanted to try: White Chocolate Bread Pudding. I will try their other cakes.

It's supposed to be good luck to get it, but mainly we use it as a way to determine who has to buy the next one. Due to law suits, most places leave the baby out to the side now a days and leave the purchaser to stick it in the king cake. Here's a bit more info on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_cake#Trinket |
