I like the archangel stocks. Also like the new bull barrels that can be gotten for them... worth the $$? Would take like 450-600 to build.. more curious of the benefits of being able to shoot the 7.62x54r from a newer accurate bull barrel..

For 4-600 you could buy a Remington 700 in 308 that will be 1 gazzilion times more accurate

Put a jmeck weap-on scope mount so I wouldn't destroy a perfectly good surplus rifle.

Shoots just as good as one with an archangel stock on it now that it is scoped

I suppose it's like making a 1978 ford pinto into a race car......sure it can be done.....the question is why when there are far better choices to spend your money on?

Pretty much what I was thinking. Mosins are cool and all , but buy one and leave it alone. You buy them because they are cheap and effective surplus rifles , not to customize and try to take down deer at 400 yards.

I was at Duham's Sporting goods a couple of years ago.  This was 1 week after they had had Mosins on sale for $89.00.  They had one left it was a piece of crap.  The stock all beat up, missing pieces,  cracked and gouges out of the wood.  I called the counter guy over and offered him $79.00 for the POS.  They took it.  I put the barreled receiver on a ATI stock.  Why did I do this.  The barreled receive was perfect.  no importer marks, no armory marks.  The barrel was bright.  The rifling was sharp.   I don't think the barrel receive was ever issued during the war.   It looked brand new.  If you look at it, it does not seem quite right.  The barrel is to long for the stock.  I have no intentions of cutting it off.

the actions on all three of mine are so stiff and hard to work smoothly that I wouldn't bother rebarreling them

any tips for smoothing up the working of the bolt?

Brass for the 54 is high. Surplus is corrosive and cant be reloaded and i'd bet the bull barrels are made of cheap carbon steel that would rust in 12 hours from the salts in the powder.

I think you would be better off to buy a PSL if you can find one and keep the nagant stock.

Carb cleaner, a drill, and a brush inside the chamber.

I made this "short sniper" out of a 91/30 that had a bulged barrel.

I love dicking around with mosins.... plus seeing purists cringe makes my heart feel all warm and fuzzy

Here's mine, the minimosin. Shoots 2" groups. Eat yalls hearts out purists

It's a flamethrower

The point is that it's a basic, cheap bolt gun that's reasonably accurate but near impossible to kill. Plus ammo is cheaper than 5.56 and 7.62x39 and comparable to 30-06

I also don't feel like spending 600 bucks on a shitty remington that's going to cost a minimum of 50 cents a shot on ammo that'll probably lock the gun down and shoot 5" groups.

$0.19 per round vs $0.59.

He can shoot the x54 3 to 1.

This one clanks the gong regularly at 600 yard shoots...

This particular one did 1.8 MOA in the ARFCOM 1 MOA all day challenge....

This one is a little more worn, but still fun:

No cheap plastic stocks necessary...

For all you need to know about Mosins go to.    http://7.62x54r.net
As far as a sticky bolt.  Take some solvent, soak some patches in it and soak the receiver and chamber real good.  Then take a 20ga. brush put it on a drill and soak it in solvent and move it up and down in the rec, chamber.  Do not go in the barrel at all.  Chances are you have a shit load of cosmoline dried in the rec chamber area.

Local gun shop here does the entire deal for you for that price range., including a new trigger and an optic. I have thought about getting another Mosin and doing this as I want to keep the one I have pristine, but just never seem to have the spare money to dump into that anymore. May still do it down the road though.

The only "custom" Mosin-Nagant I want is to buy someone's bubbafucked monstrosity, and redeem it by making it into an Obrez.

as far as I am concerned, 1.8 MOA with a Mosin makes you the best shot on this board.

Yeah, but last time I checked, my 1.8 MOA entry put me dead last in that category.

I wanna shorten the barrel on this one...
